Damnit I really should have bought the rifle tag and hunted the last week of Oct with my bow  :bash:

I was debating and debating. Hopefully I can get into some late rutting BT's in late Nov.

I shot this blacktail buck on lopez island 2 years ago on halloween.  It was a wet and windy morning and then the clouds broke up and the sun came out and about 15 minutes later this buck walked through.

Last years BT. Shot in a clear cut late in the 1st week of Modern general season. Sunny day, midweek, no pressure. I think it had rained the night before. confusing critters to pattern for sure.

These posts are adding fuel to the fire that wants to get out and hunt.  Anyone else on here get to continue their season past the 31st?  I am really looking forward to the opportunity to hunt the first couple weeks of Nov.

In my opinion it isn't so much as the rut is going completely in late Oct but more that the bucks REALLY want it to. I believe peak breeding occurs 2nd and 3rd week in Nov. which is still good hunting but different.
Seeing all of these big bucks showing up on this thread isn't doing me any good.  :chuckle: 8 more days!

Here's a pic of my son and his first deer last year late in October. We heard this buck fighting with another buck and snuck in on them. The other one was a nice one also but this is the one that gave us the shot. Typical big bodied high country buck.

Very Nice 3nails!

What I have seen in the lower country is that the peak is usually around the last few days of october through the first week of November but in the high country its about 2 weeks later. Used to hunt low through general then high in late buck to get the most rut action.

Nice buck BLR. Is it cut in half or is that just my imagination?
