For me, part of the reason I don't want to wear it is I don't really like other hunters knowing where I am. I like to get a long way off the roads so I am not as worried about it being crawling with hunters but I like the idea of playing it by ear and seeing if I see many other hunters where we are hunting and going from there.
Basically, that's exactly what I do.

I might wear my orange vest but I wouldn't go out of my way to make sure it's visible at all times. For instance if my backpack covered the entire back half of it I woudln't worry about it. And if I had to put a rain coat over the top of it I would do that too. Sure would be nice not to have to worry about always having 400 square inches of orange showing.

Basically the only reason I would wear my orange vest is because I like having all the pockets. I sometimes wear it instead of a pack, because I can carry quite a bit of stuff just in the back pouch of my vest.

If you end up hunting in a place where you don't feel safe due to bullets going every which way, I'd find a different place to hunt.
:yeah:, i hate wearing the stuff and never do in the bush but i will if i am on the roads or if i am around a clearcut and get that feeling that eyes are watching me or a scope for that matter, there are some bonified *censored*s out there that think they should scope everything instead of using binos :twocents:

After reading all your posts I think my decision is to just use my little bit off my pack for when I am moving then put it away when I am sitting and glassing. If I am seeing alot of hunters or get that feeling like I am being watched then I will put it on more often.

Definatley not. Ive been scoped by too many *censored*es that don't carry binoculars only because they saw my orange and wanted to see what I was doin . Had that happen too many times when hunting with a rifle in washington. Quit wearin it and it never happened again, then I just went to archery and never had to worry.

maybe i'm weird but I always appreciate it when other hunters wear orange- It lets me know where they are so I don't come stomping through their area.

I would wear orange to protect myself.  You see on hunting shows only the hunter has orange on -- why?  I don't want to get shot and there is always one shooter that does not know what he is shooting at.  I make anyone walking with me while I'm hunting wear orange.  I put orange on during modern firearm season while riding horse to protect me my horse and the whole group.

When we hunted in oregon we didn't need to wear orange. I had a red b-ball cap on and thats it. We were hunting blacktails in the high country with very little pressure. If there was more people It would depend on where the days hunt took me.
Remember that buck is climbing that Mt. every day!

Heck yeah, I'd wear orange. I value my life more than not wearing orange and waiting for someone to "think" I look like a big bear. :) :chuckle:

We were orange in Idaho. Cant tell you how many times I have seen a quad or guy moving along a road from a ways away in the snow and I stop quickly to see if its an animal. Some people may see that and not think twice about raising their rifle. its not worth it
