Crap, I am having a problem locating a stock
« on: October 08, 2011, 07:14:07 AM »
I have a Savage/Stevens 200 in .308.  It's one of the $400 jobbies from Cabelas.  Anyway, this rifle is great, especially for the price.  What I'm looking for is a wooden stock or a youth stock for it.  I have searched and searched and have come close but, when I have the cash, I can't find the deal again.  Anyone know where to consistently find one?

Have you tried Gunbroker.com ?
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

not sure your price range.. but MPI stocks are nice fiberglass stocks, and easily worked down for a youth sized gun

If Boyd's has that model stock that is the way I would go.  My dad just bought one for a gun he is building for my brother for under $100 and it is really nice.

He ordered mine from Richards because Boyds doesn't make a thumbhole stock for the 1903 Sprinfield action I'm using.  They are more expensive and have a longer turn around time because they build them to order.  I think it is gonna end up being 8+ weeks for deliver from time of order.  I'm sure it will be nice too though.

Worth the wait for mine, I like a gun that looks as nice as it performs.

Have you looked on ebay ?
Or savageshooters.com? YOu have to pay and become a member to use the classifieds on savageshooters. It's like $10  or so.

Thanks for the leads guys.  Lots of good info here and it will help a bunch.  The reason I need another stock is to cut it down for my sons to use.  A Youth stock would be even better but, that's like finding a white buffalo.  Easier/cheaper to cut it down myself.  Thanks again

I had one that I gave to my neighbor. Maybe he's done with it. I'll ask him next time I see him.
There's usually at least a few Savage stocks on Ebay. I bought that youth stock on there. Knowing me, I didn't pay much for it but I don't remember just how much...maybe $30??

You can always build a spacer for the stock after it is cut down...  so all you have to do is pull off the recoil pad and slap the spacer in there when you want to shoot it.

I have a weatherby vanguard youth stock you can have to try to do any modifications to. It has a broken sling mount on the front and they replaced it for my wife and didn't want the broken one back. It is synthetic. I think LOP is 12 1/2". It is in good shape and free. I live in Seattle. Let me know if you want it to try. It was for a .308. So short action.
