my foxpro/decoy phase 1...
« on: October 08, 2011, 07:49:50 PM »
well after decking the wifey out in new under armour women's gear, and getting the kids hooked up with gear for this year, plus new truck. I finally got my Foxpro spitfire tonight. after playing with it, mainly bugging the dog I released that if the get close enough to see it, they kinda lose interest. So out to the garage I went digging threw some old kids toys. I found my prey a stuffed bunny... phase 2 will be some more accurate coloring. :chuckle: :chuckle: What do you guys think?

well phase two hasn't work out the best ran out of my tan spray paint and don't have any brown  :dunno:,  so for phase 2 the goal is to paint the bunnie a more realistic color. phase three is to wash in scent away to get rid of paint smell, then the final and I think most important phase 4. Throw bunnie in with my daughters rabbits to get the proper smell.

Sebek, you might be better off getting some RIT fabric dye. You can find it in the laundry section of most grocery stores. Shouldn't run you more than 2 dollars and it wont fade or flake off like paint.  :twocents:

Cool project, looking forward to the final product.

thanks for the idea, might have to give that a try.  I am always open to suggestions. and I have to say my poor dog does have alot more interest in the call with the bunnie covering it, and in testing on flat clear ground remote still works great with the bunnie on at 100 yrds.

sorry about the image quality but for some reason the flash is bringing out the base color and drowning out the layers over it. :dunno: for now you will have to take my word that it looks 10x better than it does in this picture. I layered the paint in streaks and coats over the bright reddish brown, first  a tan layer with a few hints of brown coming through then a grey dusting. Tried to make it look more like a jackrabbit since I see them in some of the areas I go. Phase 3 was really easy, wash in scent away, and onto phase 4. Trowing this little guy in with my daughters real rabbits for the next week or two so he smells right. Figured combine smell, plus rabbit distress calls, plus kinda looking like one should equal allot of dead yotes :chuckle:
Oh and Fair Chase thanks again for the idea on the rit I have bunnie number two being dyed right now to try one that way.

I have full body decoys, and a western rivers decoy that spins around.
