Temp to allow game to hang in camp???
« on: October 09, 2011, 09:25:01 AM »
What temperature would you think would be good enough to let you deer hang in camp and not worry about having to get it to a butcher?  I guess it would be better asked....How high would you allow the temp to get before you would worry about it being to warm to have your game hang in camp for a few days?

Kept in the shade, Daytime temps don't matter so much if night time temps are in the mid 30's or colder.  Skin must be off, Have it quartered or boned and be sure it doesn't see the sun.  If the meat temp stays in the low 40's or colder all day your OK but colder is better.

As mentioned, shade temp or cold spots(near creek) can be colder than outside ambient temps.

In our deer camp our deer pole is in the shade all day and right next to a creek, stays real cool.
