Oh yeah!  I know they are there!  I unfortunately didn't have enough time to hunt them down with having to get back to work and all.  I have worked on this piece of property on and off doing odd jobs for the last 5 years and finally got permission to hunt it this year.  While working there I have seen a few really nice bucks over the years.  I saw a 4 point with an eyeguard on the left side 3 summers ago.  A few 3 points here and there, and last year I saw a really big 2 point with antlers that curved out real wide then came back in and almost touched.  It was very unique looking and a definite shooter.  Unfortunately last year before I had permission.  I have a friend that hunts some private land on Whidbey island every year and he has killed some awesome bucks.  2 years ago he killed a non typical 5 X 7.  The thing was awesome and very gnarly looking!  The islands do have some decent deer for sure!

Nice deer and story,   I think some of the small body and head mentioned earlier is that it is an island deer in September,  island deer I have heard are a bit smaller but I bet that guy would have looked tough as hell in late October/November.

Yeah the island deer are normally a bit smaller then the mainland blacktails and this was a pretty young buck to boot.  You are right about the difference in looks being time of year.  I always hunt archery and my friends hunt modern firearm season in the same area.  Their deer normally look a good bit tougher.  Here is a picture of what my friends deer normally look like.  This is of course an older buck and a pretty decent one for the island but you can see the difference in coloring with this one being shot in the late season in November compared to the one I shot.

you may want to tell your buddy in the pic with the modern deer shot. If he is going to pose with a deer shot on the islands. He may want to not pose with what looks like a modern firearm. I believe all the islands are modern firearm restriction..........But i could be wrong. Just saying since ive heard the game wardens do troll on these forums....

Good job, there are a few big deer on the islands, and some oddballs, here is my buddies that came off Whidbey last year. If it had both sides the same, it would have been even more impressive.

Congratulations on the deer.  You did a fine job on the write up as well.  Great job all around.
