Pics of Me Recovering My Island Blacktail
« on: October 11, 2011, 11:06:42 AM »
Some of you may recall I shot my deer this year on an island in the middle of a pond.  The recovery was quite interesting.  I finally got the pictures from my friend so you all could see them.  I can't seem to get them to post on the forum but you can see them on my hunting blog at:

armedhiker.blogspot.com

I also have the story posted on there but it is quite long so if you just want to see the pics scroll down and you will see them.

Nice deer... congrats.
By my honorable conduct as a hunter let me give a good example and teach new hunters principles of honor, so that each new generation can show respect for their god, other hunters and the animals, and enjoy the dignity of the hunt.

Calling an illegal alien an 'undocumented immigrant' is like calling a drug dealer an 'unlicensed pharmacist'.

Nice deer and story,   I think some of the small body and head mentioned earlier is that it is an island deer in September,  island deer I have heard are a bit smaller but I bet that guy would have looked tough as hell in late October/November.

Yeah the island deer are normally a bit smaller then the mainland blacktails and this was a pretty young buck to boot.  You are right about the difference in looks being time of year.  I always hunt archery and my friends hunt modern firearm season in the same area.  Their deer normally look a good bit tougher.  Here is a picture of what my friends deer normally look like.  This is of course an older buck and a pretty decent one for the island but you can see the difference in coloring with this one being shot in the late season in November compared to the one I shot.
