Tree stand location
« on: October 10, 2011, 12:02:02 PM »
I've found a nice secluded series of clrear cuts to hunt on the west side for late archery. Been scouting a bunch and I know there's deer in the area just doesn't seem like there are many or hardly any well established trails in the area just lots of tracks and scat all over the cut and inside the edges of the cut.
There is a large (about 200 yds across) circle of older growth that was left in the center of the cut. Does anyone have any input on where they generally hang stands for BT or if the deer will gravitate towards the island of trees left in the center?

Maybe a bait pile inside the large stand of old growth?  The obvious answer is to find their entrance/ exit trails into the clear cut and island of trees but if you aren't locating any you can bet they will create one going to a pile of alfalfa.

The way Blacktails roam around it's tough to nail 'em down.  I would focus on a uber thick brushy area near the clear cut that has some trails coming out of it.  Set up on the edge of the 'cut so you can catch 'em coming out or going into the cover.  If there's food available.... all the better.  Hope you drill one!

Thanks I'm going back Friday and I think there is a spot like that where its really thick. I want to hunt the thick stuff (or the edge of the thick stuff) from a stand but the problem I keep running into is how to approach a stand location without making a crap load of noise and blowing everything out of there.

There sure are a lot of tracks but they seem to be scattered all over the place within the cut (probably b/c it is a feeding area) I am going to walk the edge of the cut on Friday and see if I can find a trail that heads in or out of some thick stuff.

Heres a pic of a buck I have on camera from the area, I would not mind sticking an arrow through this guy.

Hello,

I am a west side bow hunter looking for a possible partner to do the late season. I went out a few times early, too much brush and heat $)$*%&*@($@$*@_*$_)(. If you would want to have some company let me know. I am mature (49) have been out a lot but not killed a deer yet (shot at a few). I also have an RV which could be used for a weekend trip.......
