Well said...The huntwashingtonstate.com site is one of the best quick reference points for researching harvest reports and areas.   I would give it a good read. Look at the map in the reg book and start going over the areas that cover the Cascade Foothills close to home.  Then use Google Earth or a good map site... like G4 and plan some scouting based on that info.  More reward in research and boots on the ground when you bring home your first Elk.  Good luck...

Dang..from some of the responses. You'd think it was more rewarding to have someone point one out and let ya know when to shoot.

Look at a map. Find areas with a lack of roads. North and south facing sloaps. Hike in and look for sign. Wouldn't ya rather find it on your own? Much more rewarding. Kinda like tying your own fly.

well put I suppose. Besides the fact that I am new to elk hunting and dont have alot of resources or people to give me advice. I am not looking for someone to say hey there are elk right here right now you should go take a look. also hell would you like me to shoot it for ya to. I simply posted on here to look for advice, tips, or helpful info for a first time elk hunter on his own. I dont want honeyholes or anything like that just simple damn advice. But there are people that seem to be way better minded than I am and are completely self sufficient. sorry that I am not. But to those were willing to lend some simple advice and tips and not a bunch of smart a$$ remarks, (not that I cant take them I was just hoping for more useful info) I appreciate it.

Problem is. We tell you. You tell bobby. Bobby tells timmy etc...... It's not that we don't want to help. It's just that we've been burnt in the past. If you had a specific ? about an area I was familiar with. Id help. But to expect someone to share a good quality general tag spot. Unrealistic. I've got really good friends that I won't show  my spots to. Don't take it personal.

Follow the advice in my first post and you will find elk. It isn't as hard as you are thinking.

Looking forward to seeing pics of your bull.

In 2009 27 elk were taken out of that GMU. Not high numbers but if you know someone who has Elk on the property then why not.   And since its an any Elk area it might be worth it.

most of the capitol forest is in 663 which is 3pt....and yes there are elk near elma and in the capitol but like the blacktails they go silent and dark when the season opens or in the case of some elk the stand around on private ground thumbing their noses at the pumpkins driving by  :bash: my learning curve has been slow..... but bugs now fear me even no other animals do  :dunno:

Yes I totally AGREE.... Some of the people on here are such AS*****S!! And if I was the moderater I would totally kick you off this website cause you are probably the same ones that are roadhunting that don't EVER WAVE... I mean come on put your hand up and give a friendly wave when you pass another hunter on the road... GIVE SOME RESPECT!! How would you feel if you were the one that wanted some SIMPLE INFO on were to go elk hunting or if you EVEN KNEW WERE TO GO?
You know some of the people in Washington are MILITARY that just moved here and they wanna try and get out there and hunt but they don't know the area cause they are serving our country...

SO G** D***** stand up and help someone out once in awhile if they are asking for help ... DON'T MAKE FUN OF THEM!! Like I said what if that was YOU?

REMEMBER TO WAVE WHEN YOU PASS ANOTHER HUNTER!!

Here we go with crankiness and YELLING again...  :stirthepot:

May that for which I prepare never come to pass.

True about 663 Runamuk, I was referring to 666 assuming that he knew someone with property that had Elk on it.  And you are spot on,  they go dark!  Like they vaporize or something... As I have never seen a single Elk in Capital in all my years hunting during the season.  Seen Sign, but no living examples...
