First day of the season and first shovler.
« on: October 15, 2011, 01:06:06 PM »
Went out today, and got 4 birds!!  Got my first shoveler, and first thought it was a mallarad hen.  It was upside down when my dog retrived it looked exactly like a mallarad at that angle.  Going out tomorrow as well and cant wait!

Fajitas - they aren't that great w/o a fair amount of spices.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

marinade and BBQ them, I can't taste a difference between a spoony and a mallard

Marinades, soy sauce, BBQ sauce, italian dressing, red wine & olive oil - these are all good for making palatable the less palatable waterfowl species.

:chuckle: I am a big brother of BBBS, and took my little brother on his second hunt ever.  He is wearing my extra stuff over his layers.  I gave him the regs, and his job was spotting birds, and Identifying the ones that my dog's brought back. We had low tide getitng into the blind and out when we left.  The blind was 20 feet from shore, and I just did a simple fireman carry to get him up to the blind. Between him and my dogs Im not sure who was more excited about that day.   It was a great way to start the season
