3nails jr.s' opening day high blacktail
« on: October 16, 2011, 01:59:32 PM »
What a great day to hunt the high country! Clear, cold, fresh snow on the ground. Hiked for 3 hours in the dark gaining 4,000'. Side-hilled 3/4 of a mile or so to a spot I've had success in the past. Right away we spotted this 3 pt and after a short stalk my son was able to make the shot at 120 yards. It took us 4 hours to pack the boned-out buck back to the truck. This will be the last "little" buck I'll let him shoot that far in. At 13 yrs old it is great watching his mental toughness developing with such a physically demanding hunt. All glory to God for creating such a beautiful day and hunt with my son.

Looks like a gorgeous day and equally as fantastic buck! Congrats to you both!

The pic of him in the snow is almost 6,000' which is pretty high for the wet side.

I have been hoping to see you guys post something, congrats to your son, sounds like he has been having an awesome year so far.  This is my daughters first year and Friday night she was excited to go, but we woke up and half way to where we was going she was in tears from a gut ache and I had to take her back home.  I went solo and walked in alone, let a fork walk that would have made a good first buck for her.  Tell your boy good job, and ill be waiting to see what you end up with.
When you see the third, thin the herd.
Right now I'm somewhere picking up sheds.

Great pic and nice buck. Suprised the snow even melted that high up on Baker this year with all the late snow this last spring.

I'm hoping the snow doesnt drop more than a foot or two at 3,000' on the wet side this year before late archery starts.
