I usually go over to the east side and hunt late buck with the family. I got laid off and had some extra time on my hands. During bear season I found this nice spot. Saw 7 deer the 1st day out. One really nice 4x4. So I decided to check it out, with all the extra time. I get set up about 4 hours before sunset. With 2 hrs before dark I am scanning over this meadow below me. I start to put on some extra layers as the high mtn cool night is is starting to bite. As I stand up, these 2 bucks who were above and behind me at 200yds bust me. A spike and a 3x2. Its a 2pt min unit and the 3x2 is only giving me a face shot (i snapped a couple shots of them). They are wanting to come my way, but I am here. I hunker down and hope they try to circle around me. As I wait 6 more deer show up from 100yds, doe n yearling, and another buck at 500yds. to far for me to feel good about. I got an hour n half a daylight and decide to put the stock on. Again, as I stand a doe busts me from behind. So i decided to be patient and wait for those bucks to come back around. With 30 mins of legal light left. The 3x2 pokes his head over the ridge again, only a head, maybe some neck, 160 yds. I post up and watch and wait. 15mins later he steps out with a broadside shot at 110yds. 20 seconds after that he rolls to within 30 ft of me. 3.5 hrs later I make it back to the truck. 1 am asleep. Pretty stoked to be in the high country, solo and have such a great opportunity to put some meat in the freezer.
