Road hunt or hike in?

So I'm here in Winthrop and I am having no luck. I have hiked about 20 miles and have seen lots of sign (poop and tracks), but have yet to see a shooter. I have seen two bucks so far (not legal) and multiple doe each day. I'm seeing alot of people hunting from the road and I am wondering if that is what I should be doing. I am new to deer hunting and was curious if you had any tips on what to do or if somewhere else might be a better way to go. I am camping in Winthrop, but wouldn't mind driving somewhere that I might have better odds. Feel free to PM me, any help is appreciated. Thanks

I am a hiker by nature, but sometimes I road hunt when Im a passagner with a road hunter, or Im with that guy that just cant seem to walk quite, or not get tired after walking a few miles

Its very hard / impossible to walk around in the timber & not spook the deer with the weather we have since ground is dry & noisy. Walk in find an open area that shows signs of deer activity & position yourself with the wind in your face, & glass for movement. Be patient & when you have had enough wait some more. The deer are being pushed around by other timber walkers throughout the Methow Valley so they usually move around more than normal during the modern hunt. To put your chances into perspective 7.5 out of 10 hunters will not be successful each year but thats the reason for the feeling you will get when you finally shot your first buck.

Thanks everyone for all your posts. I tried road hunting a little, but I enjoy hiking alot more. I sure put down the boot leather these past 5-6 days and have seen more doe and deer sign than I did last year, so I'm just going to enjoy the experience and keep on looking. I'm going to head closer to home and see if I can get lucky over here on the west side. Either way I am having fun and enjoying the outdoors. Thanks again everyone.

Hunting on foot is much more rewarding . Slow down , play the wind and stick to the south slopes in early morning and it will pay off .

As long as you are not walking the roads everyone is driving on then you are on the right track.  Learning an area is important. What you can see from the seat and what you can see from foot will usually be different. Unless it wide open viewing, then glass it over good.
