wolf or cougar droppings?
« on: March 20, 2012, 11:18:03 AM »
I saw this large pile of poo recently in the Blues east of Walla Walla. I think it may be wolf. Cartridge is a 300 Win Mag loaded to 3.5" long. It was not too far from where I for sure saw a wolf last October.

Its not uncommon for adult cougar scat to be around 1.5 inches in diameter and 9 inches long.. they have somewhat blunted-off ends AND those stringy ends, so its kind of hard since they don't really have a tell-tale poop. Wolf scat is generally a LITTLE smaller... around 1 inch in diameter and 4-6 inches in length, but can have similar hair content... and they generally taper at one end.

Do cougars have that high of bone fragment content in their scat, though? Seems like the animal that "wolfs" its meal without chewing is, well, the wolf, right?
I am not opposed to golf, for I suspect it keeps armies of the unworthy from discovering deer.

any cougar crap that i have seen which i have seen alot has always been very dark and creamy looking, very disgusting, that to me looks like coyote, was ther any paw marks in the dirt, sometimes big cats will do a half ass job of thinkn they are trying to bury it, even on roads
my grandpa always said "if it aint broke dont fix it"
