1911 Super .38
« on: July 20, 2008, 09:51:59 PM »
Hey guys,  My wife's grandfarther past a way a while ago.  While going through his stuff we found a 1911 super .38 since my wife's family has no use for guns I piped up and said I'll take it.  Now I have a "new" 1911 in a .38 that is still in the original box with all or most of the papers that came in the box.  To be honest I don't think this thing has even been shot or if it has it has only 10-20 rounds through it.  Now my question is it a rare/collectors gun or just a run of the mill gun. The serial # is in the 15 hundreds.  From how the paper/writing look on the box and papers I'd say it's from the 30's-50's.  Just looking for a little info on it, I'm having a hell of a time finding anything on line about it that is worth any help, also does it shot standered .38 auto or some special .38 ammo. Thanks for any help.
I read it on the internet, its gotta be real

Yes, That is possibly very rare and collectable. You could be holding a 3k gun there. Congrats  :)
If you want pm me, I might be able to identify it a little better for you.

Is it a Colt? The 38 Super is a great cartridge, does everything the new "357 Sig" does and more. You MUST use 38 Super ammo it is spendy.
If it is a Colt, call them. My opine is shoot it shoot it  shoot it.
There aint nuthin better than an OLD Colt 1911. New ones aint worth buying.

Yeah it's a colt.  No his name isn't bob.  I just stuck it in my safe at my moms house.  Compared it to my springfield 1911, the colt looks way better, maybe because it's older and made when when things were supposed to last.  Thanks for the info on what rounds to use, there was a old box of winchester ammo with it, in I think colt .38 auto, could be wrong.  To be honest since I was a little kid I've loved the 1911 style, I can't begin to tell you all how I excited I am to not only have one in .45 but now in "super" .38  :IBCOOL:
