My 2011 Season didn't last long but I put some miles on my boot's this year .
Opening day had me walking an edge of a clearcut just inside the timber and within the first 15 min of the season I had a small spike walking in right towards me . It gave me just enough time to decide that I would pass and get to keep hunting . I spent the rest of day busting brush only to see one more doe .
Sunday after hiking for what seemed endless hours I headed back to the cut where I seen some good sign and put up some scent wick's and hung out for a few hours , only to head home mid afternoon as I ran out of food and water and with the sunny weather I decided it would be best to wait a few days for the weather to change as I didn't see a single deer .
So here we are sitting in the office Wednesday and I just had that feeling it was the day to leave early and get an evening hunt in . The blue sky was now gray and there was some rain drops to be had .
I headed back out to the area where I hung those scent wicks and low and behold , Right below the wicks the little jack firs it looked like a buck just shredded it up . Good Sign I had about 2 hours before dark
So I Just parked by butt and waited for what seemed like forever. Played with the rattle bag, gave the doe can call a try . Something to pass the time . I give props to the guys that can spend countless hours in tree stand or blinds . At some p With about 20 minutes of light left and having not seen any movement I decided I was going to make a move . My plan was to take a short hike down and back out before dark in hopes of stirring up a buck .
I started to follow a deer trail into some really thick brush when I happen to look up and See A buck 70 yards standing broad side . My instincts just kicked in , I threw up my riffle , flipped the safety and right before he tried to do his dance out of there I squeezed the trigger . One shot and he dropped . The hunting god's are with me , after years of tag soup I was able to fill my tag for a 2nd consecutive year
And A big thanks Lil Swab here on the board who met me out in the woods to help drag it out or I would still be out there .
