No more Tag Soup...
« on: October 19, 2011, 06:27:49 PM »
I'm really trying to avoid anymore tag soup this year. The problem is I don't have enough time off at work to take time for Deer and Elk season. I have never really been a hard deer hunter and focused mainly on hunting elk. Now I'm really getting into it and I have a general knowledge of HOW to hunt blacktail, I just don't know WHERE to hunt blacktail. I'm not looking to for anyone to give up their personal honey hole or anything, but an area, GMU, County...anything would be helpful. I get a couple good hours after work in most nights and with the deer getting all worked up this coming up week I would like to be able to put one down and get to notch my first deer tag. Information that turns out to be profitable can/will be rewarded with a nice cut, some sausage, and possibly some jerky. Thanks for the help guys, and I don't know how i didn't find this site earlier!

Its hard to give up information on blacktails because they are the toughest deer to hunt period !!! I mean trophy size blacktail ... I can find spikes and little 2 pts without much trouble but 3 & 4 pts different story ...But what I do know is most of the bigger blacktails get killed this last week in October and I can guarantee ya that ......find those 2 & 3 year old clearcuts and thats a good start...they also like to hide in that brown fire weed ..... without good bios you will not see them ...

I have a decent set of binos and a good spotting scope setup that I take in field with me. Trophy sized would be fantastic but dinner plate size works just as well for me this year, lol. I have a hog of a 4 point that eats the apples out of my apple tree in the back yard, next time he comes to snack I will try and snap a shot of him. If only I didn't live in a no shoot....
