Shot this puppy on Sunday morning around 8:00am.
Hunted some private land down along the snake river in Southeast Washington.
Last year I saw around 400 deer per day. This year was around 90 per day. Only saw 15 bucks in total and this was the biggest. No idea why the numbers seemed so down.
Beautiful land and the weather was nice yet rainy/overcast.
Quick story: Was heading back from a canyon and going through some flats. It was an unlikely place for a buck to be but I saw it jump at around 50 yards. I instantly saw a nice rack and threw up my binos. I saw the forks and told my friend that it was legal. It was full out sprinting over little bluffs and through 5ft tall wheat/grass. The visibility was very poor. I saw that he was going to be out of sight in about 5 seconds. Took my first shot at 200 yards and connected. He was slowed down and quickly went out of sight. I wasn't sure where my shot had landed. I gave it 10 minutes and then slowly started creeping through the grass to locate the deer. My friend found him quite quickly. He was watching us from his death bed. I was trying to see where he was hit when a truck started revving up a couple canyons away. The buck saw this and jumped up and started booking it away from me. A quick off hand shot from 50 yards put him down for good.
I am pleased with the buck and it was the easiest pack out that I have ever seen. Got a 4 wheeler right next to him. Usually this area requires multiple hours of dragging the deer out of canyons but not this time.
