« on: October 20, 2011, 11:02:06 AM »
Hey guys I know how to get to Capital Forest from up by the dunes... But would like to go in over by Tumwater. Is there anyone on here that knows how to get there from that area?

Littlerock isn't too far from Tumwater, do you know where that is?

I presume from your name and post that you are from Yelm and know how to get to Tumwater.  If going to Tumwater on old 99 (heading to Tumwater through Rainier) take a left on 93rd shortly after the Bark and Garden store.  Take 93rd to Littlerock RD.  Left on Littlerock road to 110th.  Right on 110th to Delphi RD.  Right on Delphi RD to Waddle Crk RD. Left on Waddle Crk rd.  Follow to the end it turns to gravel and you are in Capitol Forest.  I Don't go up there much but I am pretty sure that is right.

Where are the dunes?

Quote
From Olympia head west on US 101 for 2 miles, taking the Black Lake Boulevard exit. Proceed south on Black Lake Boulevard. In 3.5 miles the road turns west, becoming 62nd Avenue. Continue another 0.7 mile to a stop sign. Turn left on Delphi Road, continuing for 2.2 miles. Turn right on Waddell Creek Road and in 2.7 miles enter the Capitol State Forest. Bear right onto Sherman Valley Road, and in 1.5 miles turn left onto the C Line. Follow this mostly gravel, sometimes paved road for 7 miles to a major junction (just beyond a quarry). Turn left, continuing on the C Line for 1.5 miles to the seriously neglected Wedekind Picnic Area. Park here. The trail starts on the west side of the C Line.

Awesome thanks so much... Do you know if I need the Discover Pass since I have my hunting license? I can't find a number to call for information for Cap. Forest so I'm not sure. I know its State Land and you need one but not sure since I have my hunting license and I bought it before June 1st.

You shouldn't need it because you bought your hunting license early. You already paid for your pass on your vehicle. I wouldn't worry at all, they told me that they are only making people "aware" of the discover pass this year anyway. Don't pay double!!!

I just called the Dept. fish and wildlife and DNR and they both said you WILL need the pass. And I'll need it for Winston Creek anyways so I guess I'll just have to go buy one.

Because CF is DNR land and they designated it as an area that the D-pass is required.  The only areas where the permit you get with your hunting license is good is at WDFW lands.

I live real close to CF and wish I could hunt there, but I refuse to buy the D-pass and will not be going up there until they make some changes to the stupid pass. :twocents:

You will need a discover pass.  THEY ARE TICKETING.  I work for DOL and see the tickets all the time.  I was even checked myself.  I had it in my center console not in the window.  :IBCOOL:

Good to know. I am going down to the Winston unit for modern elk because I have a permit, but I don't have a discover pass either. Hmmmmmm, don't know what i'm going to do now  :dunno:

Should be a lot of areas in Winston where you don't need the pass.  Isn't most of Winston Creek owned by Weyerhauser?

Yeah I think so. I just saw that Yelm Hunter said he was going there and needed the pass, so I was going off of that. Can they get any more confusing.....geez. Why can't a person just go buy his tags and get out into the woods and be left alone. I'm so sick of worrying about having to buy this that doesn't cover that and so on and so forth LOL. This state tries to rob you any way they can.
