deer season mountain money
« on: October 20, 2011, 12:57:48 PM »
after actually getting out of my truck and hiking opening weekend of deer modern firearm season in vail tree form, I stumbled upon a lot of human sign and got to wondering... do people still really pack TP for mountain money?

I have always believed baby wipes are far superior, but maybe there is something better out there? perhaps the washington state game regs would work better, or all that extra license paper you get if you don't purchase ALL your licenses at the same time.

lets face it, taking care of business in the woods is an art form ( or so I heard someone say that one time ) so let the artists speak up.

I dumped a 6 pack out of a brown paper bag and used it last weekend. Desperate times call for desperate measures...

I lost a game bag last weekend because I was mountain-money-less.
Never again.

TP. Its the 11th essential.

While the subject has come up, please move your business out of the middle of landings and into the bushes. Heck, maybe even bury it a little. :twocents: Nothing better than driving out on a landing and stepping directly in a pile of S***.

I choose baby wipes, cause they are preferred.

However its usually TP.

There always seems to be a roll in the truck, tractor, quad, you name it theres probably a roll near by.

We call them fertilizer markers since they resemeble the airial spraying markers  :chuckle:

Somehow I managed to find myself on hikes without TP twice this fall.  First time I missed the TP when I was repacking my bag, second time I left it in the truck.   :bash:  Not a fun lesson to learn twice in one year!

I was pleasantly surprised what nature provided for a TP subsistute (leaves and the green moss that hangs from trees).  Not bad, haha.

I also have a pair of long john pants with only 3/4 of one leg due to some bad camp chili. Had to keep cutting strips off my long john's every hour or so to keep up. That was my first and last time forgetting TP in the woods.

I too am guilty of using a game bag as TP. Let's just say I only buy gamebags now, cheesecloth is far superior to Charmin.

I really thought wipes would be stronger on the poll. they are also good for cleaning up blood and if you can find the old school alcohol based wipes they make a hell of a fire starter. not to mention they are still functional if the get wet, unlike TP.

it always seems like you have about two feet less of TP than you really need... thats when game bags, game regs, and pant legs come in handy. and some times in extreme moments of outdoor-lavatory emergency-triage : your boxers.

Baby wipes dont break down in a septic system fast enough to "NOT" cause problems, and they sure as hell dont break down fast enough layin on the ground........then theres the scent issue which should be of some concern for guys supposed to be hunting. :twocents:

Baby wipes all day every day.  Buy the unscented of course.  Good for blood clean-up, washing hands after eating and nothing better to avoid the "mountain ass" than a nice cleaning with the wipes.  That said, as another member requested, get your ass off the trail/landing or road and for god sakes, dig a whole and bury it.  Even a boot scrape or peel the forest duff back and then recover.  Nuff said.

My hunter Orange vest used to have a pocket on the back in which to carry things. A few years ago it got zit off and sacrificed. The funny part was we got back to the truck and could see pieces of Orange blowing around the hillside in the wind.

I chose TP because it doubles as a fire starter.  One time I forgot my mountain money in another pack and had to use a page out of a survival guidebook that I found in my first-aid kit.  That was a little rough for my liking.

I have had to use a pair of socks before. And then there was the year that I grabbed the tp out of my pack to find that my ex's cat had pissed on the entire roll! How, or why, I still don't know! I don't know what's worse. Crap in the crack, or a crack that smells like cat pee!

On a side note, I know of a few occasions where someone has been pooping in the woods and that's when a buck decides it's ok to make an appearance. It happened to my dad. He leaned his gun against a tree and was taking care of business when a nice 3 point decided to trot out in front of him. He tried to reach his rifle, tripped, nearly fell over into his pile, and by the time he reached his gun, the deer was gone.

Then a buddy of mine told me one of his co-workers was in mid-poop and a nice buck popped its head out of the brush. In a split second decision, he pulled is pants back up and took a shot, while finishing in his drawers!  :o He got his buck, but his buddies made him ride in the back of the truck back to camp. :chuckle:
That wasn't me! It was a black Camaro! It went that way!

That happened to me!
I was mid grunt when a buck stepped out in front of me, luckily I had my .44 mag on my belt around my knees and was able to pull, shoot, grunt and get him.

Well.  This is an interesting subject for sure.  I have use the fingers of my glove and a handkerchief.

Although everyone get caught and has to poo in the woods.  It should not be something someone else should have to stumble across.  I always find time to kick a hole in the ground as to cover up my mess when finished.  I can not understand why people don't take the time to do the same.  Last week I got out of the truck and took two steps to see someones pile next to a fence line.  No doubt this fella had a greasy burger for dinner the night before.  Why did I have to see that?
