dog has diarea when running around.
« on: October 20, 2011, 06:31:17 PM »
I have a weimaraner,  he's a great dog. Exellent Hunter.

One thing I noticed,  it might be normal,...  Everytime i let him out to run, he has distraught after about 20 min. Of running,  he usually takes a dump 3 to 4 times each time i let him out.  His first poop is always normal,  then after 10-20 min of running he has distract. This happens every single time. But only when he's running/hunting.

I think that maybe when he runs around the food in his system gets stirred up and gets watery..... I dunno...  It doesn't seem to bother him at all.  He looks healthy and eats like a horse. I tried different kinds of food and it doesn't change anything.

I'm not really worried,... It's been going on since I got the dog about 7 months ago.  I'm just curious if its normal.

I will note that if he just stays in the yard and doesn't run hard or anything he poops normal.   Only if he runs hard as if he's hunting.

Also I know that wiemaraners have deep chests and its bad to run them after they eat so I always make sure he eats WAY ahead of hunting/running.

Does anyone have similar experiences? I would love to hear from anyone, especially wiemaraner owners.

I think this is something that is common with bird dogs my grandpas dogs did the same thing.and I have a couple friends whose dogs do the exact same thing. One of them goes so much that he eventually squats and nothing comes out I laugh every time it happens when we are out bird hunting

Feed issue IMO.

I thought that too.   But I tried different kinds of food and it had no effect.

I feed Eukanuba and have seen alot of dogs fed that and Pro Plan at field trials that poop at the onset of a run and that's that.I've noticed while hunting the poopapalooza is generally over and done with in the first 15 minutes. My experiance

My English Setters did the same thing.  Soon as they got out of the truck, it was "find a place to poop".  i think it's a case of Canine Nervous Bowel Syndrome.  "Oh boy! we're going hunting!"---  :crap:----- :crap:----- :crap:
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

Every dog I owned has done this. I spoke with a guy two weeks ago about this very thing, as the pup I took out for the first time did this.  I think it must has something to do with the drive and excitement.
