Kenetrek Boots??
« on: October 21, 2011, 10:53:16 AM »
I see there are multiple guides that wear these Kenetrek boats?  By the sounds of things they are very good.  Does anyone have any experience with these.  I am looking to upgrade from my Danners.
Cut em!

Topnotch boots and customer service, I think there are several threads on here where they are mentioned.  I bought a pair of their Hardscrabble boots and wear them just about every day, put a lot of miles on them during elk season too.

I am not one to write a bad review (my first time ever) but I have been extremely disappointed with my new Kenetrek Mountian Extremes NI this year.  After reading all of the great reviews on this site and others I decided to shovel out the cash and buy a pair. Well, I am thinking that was a mistake.  When I first received them through the mail via internet shopping I was very excited how they looked and felt. I immediately treated them with the wax sealer that come with the boots in the box. Then I slowly started breaking them in around the house for a month or two before the spring turkey season. I did quite a bit of hiking in them during turkey season which was very dry and I didn't seem to have any issues so I had assumed they were pretty broken in by that time.  Well then I wore them during the early ML Elk season and they kept my feet dry but my feet are still recovering from how sore they got.  I still feel like I have a dislocated toe that continues to feel numb.  Also, I started to get blisters on both heels on day 2 of my hunt. Not sure exactly what changed them during the elk season but the comfort and support was not what I expected for a $350 dollar pair of boots.  Another issue that really bugged me was how heavy they got from the leather becoming water logged. I used the wax sealer that comes with the boots and applied it very thouroughly all over the boots more then once yet the water still managed to soak into the leather.  Also, I had to keep tightening up the laces as the leather began to stretch from the water soaking in. I am starting to wonder if the water issue is what changed how they wore on my feet.  I am planning to try another type of water proofing sealer and give them one more shot during the late season, but I will definitely keep my Irish Setters close by if needed.  I would love to hear if anyone else has had similar issues or if you have any tips on what I did wrong or what I should do differently please chime in. Just my 2 cents but buyer be ware of the kenetreks.

Best boot you will ever have.  I have both pairs insulated and uninsulated, used to get blisters from other boots on break in, but never with the Kenetreks!

I Love My Mountain Extremes.
It sounds like the guy that had a problem with them might have had a fit up issue. Or maybe chity soaks.
I have 4 buddies that are extreme hunters and they live and breath Kenetrek boats as well as I do.
Best money I have ever spent.

Love my New Mountaon extremes! I'm going to go ahead and by a second pair so I have insulated and non. I had to break down and order them on line as there is no store around here, great customer service, great warranty. You need to put alot more sealer than what they send with the boots, not that I had a problem. I just like to oil the crap out of my leather. Feet stay very dry and very cozy even when the boots looked soaked.

My only concern is whether or not they can be rebuilt?  I like my danners cause when the tread wears out i can get new bottoms put on.  As long as you care for them the  uppers last a long time.   I didn't see any mention of rebuilding them on their website.  Unless their tread lasts forever, but I haven't heard on a tread that doesn't wear down yet.

I love mine, they did take a while to break in. They are sturdy enough that I can put hooks on and climb in them comfortably

I bought a pair in August and fell in love with the fit and their design. The only thing that was weird about them was the lacing system...couldn't seem to be able to get them tight enough. Nonetheless, I wore them on a scouting trip and put on about 20 miles. I did get a hot-spot on my right heel, which made me mad ($400 blister).
I got to looking at them the first night of the scouting trip and why they would not snug up. The laces looked weird and I figures out that whoever laced them from the factory had them in wrong. I laced them correctly and they are wonderful!
Wore them on a deer hunt that we used a raft to go down a river, which meant LOTS of water on the boots. Not a drop entered them, I was stoked! I even went over the tops a time or two.....
Jbeaumont...maybe check your laces?

They can be completely rebuilt.. at a fraction of the price.. They are great boots with a great customer service. I bought my boots and the week after I got them they were giving away a free pair of their gators ($50 something dollars to buy them)..I said "chit" called them up and they said no problem they are on the way.
Awesome..
P.S I hate Danner boots they suck... :yike: just my  :twocents:
Get a pair of Kenetrek and you wont regret it.

Every pair of danners I've ever owned aren't even close to my kenetreks. They do take a while to break in but once that's done they're awesome.

What the heck is wrong with Danner's? yeah its cool to have expensive gear that everyone hypes about, but that doesn't mean crap, I'd put my danners up against any boot any day.  Yeah maybe I can wade through a chest I stream in them, but neither can the guys in their 400 dollar boots either.  Oh I know, cause its from Montana they think its amazing, like Simms, they are overrated, you can get the same quality and performance out of stuff for half the price

Its not a Montana thing.
Its they (Danner) are junk. :yike:
The are Made in China. (Most of them).
I just bought My last pair of Danners.
The eyes for the laces wore out in the first 6 months.
The soles came Unglued also in the first 12 months. They stink and leak water like Titanic.. :yike:
Dont get be wrong. Ive worn Danner boots for over 25 years and always have loved them, till I had these type of problems with the last 2 pair.
Plus I really dont think You can get as good of a product as the Kenetrek boots for 1/2 the price.
Thats like saying My Tasco has just as good of glass as Your Leupold. No way..

I personally wear Lowa's but "I like simple pleasures, like butter in my ass, lollipops in my mouth" Frank Gandoli-Boogie Nights. I think they are great boots, but here good stuff about Kennetrek. Here are some Italian makers of boots, and Lowa. Something else to look at.

have you worn a pair of broken in Kenetreks?

I agree Danner does make some good boots but to get a pair that holds up usually means that they're heavy. They do have great customer service though, They've given me 5 free replacements, one for every pair I've ruined in the last 6 years.

I haven't yet, but I will check them out when my Danners wear out. They sound like quality boots, just haven't had any of the issues mentioned with Danners so I'll keep the money i saved for tags!

I do have the kenetrex gaiters, and they are great!  My boots only got wet when my pants are soaked and water runs down the top, these gaiters and rain pants keep me dry and going all day

I noticed that Wholesale Sports carries them.  Do you guys fit up a local location then order on line or do you just buy at the location?  Just try to see if it is worth pursing on line order to save some money.  They are proud of there boots.

I ordered mine on line after talking calling them and talking about the fit up of these boots. They explained how I should order them and they fit perfect. They also sell custom insoles if by chance the foot is a little loose. If I had a place that sold them near me I would have went there and bought them.

As far as the money I could save wearing a pair of Danners isnt enough to make me go back wearing them.
I dont put a dollar value on the comfort of My feet.

The Gators are very nice. I cant wait to get a chance to wear them and give them a test run.. They tossed a free pair in with mine which I thought was awesome. I guess that might Be one perk that a guy will get by ordering the boots one line.

I bought mine local. I was hesitant to buy without trying them on and it seems like the price is similar no matter where you buy.

If you can fit them local and then shop around...definitely the way to go. I got mine at Bugs n Bullets and we had a good discussion about fit. I nearly always wear a 9.5 and they suggested 10's. I went with my gut and ordered the 9.5's. The salesman said if I was wrong he would cover the shipping. $375 plus the free shipping and gators.

Absolutely love mine. Mountain extreme 400 gram.

For me, if my feet don't bug me I have a much better day and can focus more on what im doing.

Purchased mine at Yeagers and chose the kenetrek after trying on most of the boots in the store.

Bought my Kenetrek boots 4 or 5 years ago at the portland show. Really liked the way they fit. So i ordered a pair. Enjoyed them ever since. I use them for everything from shed horn hunting to elk and deer hunting. Have had no problems. Went on a long hike during deer season this year and feet were fine.

If your not in a hurry Yeager's in Bellingham seems to always put them on sale in the off season.  My brother-in-law and I both got them two years ago for $100 off the regular price.  Checked on them again this year for my cousin and same thing $100 off.  That puts them pretty close to the price of Danner's.  No contest at that price.  I swore off Danner's several years ago.  Had many a pair that I loved and then many a pair that I hated.  Seems to have started right after they got bought out by LaCrosse.

My brother-in-law and I hunt an area that is pretty much just the side of the mountain.  That means we are always going up, going down or sidehilling.  Very little flat ground.  This year we hunted hard for four days straight.  Never once did I think about my feet except to comment about how great they felt.  I carry more stuff in my pack than most.  It's not your typical daypack.  I carry enough to spend the night out comfortably if necessary.  So if you factor in the heavy pack and the terrain it makes the quality of the boots even more important.  WE LOVE OUR KENETREK'S.

I  have a pair of vasque hikers that i like but they are heavy . how are your kentreks for wieght , I heard that white custum boots are good aswell . my problem is i'm a 12 1/2 and the fit is always an issue.

I used to hunt in whites, mine were heavy but they are nice boots.  They seem I be loosing a lot of customers to nicks boots here in Spokane.  They both might offer a custom built hunting boot, and they will fit your feet the best, as the are custom fit.  I would check out both whites and nicks of you have problems with proper fitting boots.

Bought the terrane Kenetrek. Have been wearing them on the farm daily for a month before deer season. Then for elk season the same problem. .Maybe I should have just got the Mountain Extreme. Have blisters on both heels. Wearing the kenetrek liners socks with their heavy wool sock. put Bandaids on heels every time I use them.. Stopped lacing them on the top loop that helped . THey are great on mildly hilly ground but going up hill for extended periods of time just tears my heels up... Not giving up on them but ...

Try Moleskin on your heels. Go to a thicker sock as it sounds like there is still some room in your boots

I love my Kenetrek Mountain Extreme Non-insulated.  This is the first season on them, down to the blues for an elk hunt, and up on the ONP for a wet muzzy elk hunt.  I dropped a knife on the toe a month after I had them....put a hole through the top......Carter's service the ones who fix em said they would just freesole it....I did that and they still don't leak.  They lace tighter than my Meindl Canadas, which is what sold me on them.  I've wornout two pair of the meindls as work/hunting boots, the Kenetreks won't be worn at work becasue of that.  At work I wear Danner Super Rainforests, a vibram sole pair, and a corked pair for the brush.  They are good boots, but don't have the support of the kenetreks, and are heavier.  If you buy Danner buy good American made ones like the Super Rainforest, fewer leaks, rebuildable, and not complete garbage.  The Kenetrek is a far superiour hunting boot, but if you want a work boot get Danners.
