Blacktail success
« on: October 22, 2011, 11:56:52 AM »
Well I took my sister out this morning hoping to get her a deer while my brother inlaw is out of town on an elk hunt. It was stormy weather, the kind of days god creates for blacktail hunting. This guy was the 7th deer we saw, he was hot on the tail of a young doe. Unfortunately my sister just couldn't pick him out with all the rain and still low light conditions, so before he made it back into the reprod where all the other deer went I took the shot as she was saying "NO NO don't shoot NO" BOOM, sorry too late sis he was gonna get away. I felt bad but I might have got a little buck fever as I had him perfectly broadside and I said I'm gonna shoot  :chuckle:

I'll take her out tomorrow hopefully find her a bigger one. I really hated to take him with her right next to me but I just couldn't get her to see the deer, despite all my efforts in trying to explain landmarks etc. Good luck guys. Oh and I took the orange off and didn't put the tag on him yet just for the picture.

I'm still trying to dry out, got soaked to the bone. It was not a fun drag out, I've never dragged a deer that far before normally I just quarter them up and pack them out but he was close enough to a road to drag. I might be sore tomorrow. On the positive side, they are getting pretty rutted up so stick with it guys.

Nice blackie.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I'm not!
