spotted this guy tonight just before dark and was bumrushed by a gamie trying to bust me even though i was out of my rig and only taking pictures of it ( i did have my rifle but it was on the ground 5 feet away from me and unloaded, not even a magazine in it).  i didn't see it from the road only noticed it when i started on the trail to get around the log jam. it kinda startled me but a quick check with the bino's and i knew it was a fake. i hear a voices over a radio in the woods across the road and a few seconds later there he was. when he pulled up i told him the bear looked a little stiff. i was completely legal except he told me i was in a "no shooting zone". i questioned him telling him i looked at gates on both sides of this area and per the tree farm sign on them it was LEGAL to hunt in this area. he checked my tag and told me to move on, i said if it was legal to hunt there why i couldn't go in, he said "not while the decoy is here"..  so i said thank you and moved on..

For the money spent, I would rather they target off season poaching. It sounds like they are just wasting tax dollars if they have to go meet with hunters who legally shoot at the thing.

Ummm They do it in the off season too!  I'm confused, should Wardens just take the hunting season off then and then set the decoys back up when the seasons over?  Pretty sure taking a few minutes to meet with the few guys that actually legally shoot it isn't going to waste too much of your tax dollars!  If a guy sees the decoy, takes the time to get off the road before he shoots, he's probably gonna figure it out pretty quick!

I don't like the fact that they use decoys that resemble a legal animal during a legal season , seems to me that there trying to make a guy dishonist . set them up in a area where you cant shoot .

i have to agree with coach on this one.Set these decoys up on private land were the owners have complained about people tresspassing and shooting illegal game then throw the book at them.These are the so called hunters that make us all look bad.Not the guy who's driving down a road and jumps out and shoots a legal animal,[as long as he gets off the road].

i beg to differ on this...i shot a nice 4x3 bedded down less than 50 yds off a gravel road in a clear cut...you just never know with these blacktail  they just need to feel safe

I doubt its because of tribal hunting, but that would be nice if it was.

I also disagree though big bucks do sometimes bed near a road, they are so used to being well hidden and havign people drive or walk by them, they think you can't see them... and many times you don't.

I have two hunting buddies who are both Fish and Game officers.  Obviously, they are both good quality guys or else I would choose not to hunt with them.  Also, it does not matter which profession we talk about in today’s economy, there are always going to be jerks out there, no matter what he/she does for a living.  So, with all do respect it is not right to characterize all Fish and Game officers as bad people.  They are out there doing their jobs, providing a living for their families, just like we ALL do everyday.  In terms of putting a robo deer/bear, whatever … on public land vs. private land, who cares! Don’t break the law and you should not have anything to worry about.  Just let them do their job.  If a hunter runs across a Fish and Game office (robo deer or no robo deer) while hunting, that officer is most likely going to check his/her equipment and license anyway, so it should not matter why that office is there.  How would you feel if someone came to your office, job site, warehouse, wherever … everyday and told you how to do your job?  These officers are just doing their jobs, answering to management just like anyone who works for the state/government.  Maybe fish and game should put out 100’s of robo animals in effort to weed out all those unethical hunters, who every year continues to devastate all hunters’ rights and privileges.  I personally like seeing Fish and Game officers located in an area where I am hunting.  I kind of like to think it helps scare away those unethical hunters, who now won’t be around to ruin my hunt.  I was raised to be thankful for every moment I get to spend in the field with friends and family and to never take advantage of that privilege.  This is something I hope to carry on for generations to come.  I personally have nothing to hide out there and never will, so I will continue to let Fish and Game do their job with no complaints.  If an office tells me to move on, I will move on.  If he/she asks for help, I will help.  If he /she seems like an a**, then so be it.  Maybe they are having a bad day or something, but I really don’t care because it’s none of my business how they chose to do their job.  Again, they are doing their job and they are human.  If you feel like you are being harassed, maybe there is a reason for that.  I am not angry in anyway, I figured I would just share my feelings as others did too.  Good luck to everyone out there! I would of took a picture of me standing behind the buck, looking the other way with my bino's. 

Many years ago I was hunting outside of Curlew. I had hiked about 5 miles in a large semi circle. I crested a ridge and seen this nice buck looking away from me. I dropped down and used a stump to steady myself. I cranked one off right in the kill zone and nothing happened. It was at that point I realized it was a decoy. I worked my way down to the deer and realized it was only about 50 yards off a road. The gamies couldn't seem to figure out where the shot came from and only noticed me when I was about 10 yards behind the decoy. I walked up and petted it. They were yelling for me to get away from the decoy. I had my fun and continued to the road where they gave me the 10th degree about shooting a WDFW decoy deer. I explained to them that I had came from the other direction, had made sure it was a legal deer (3x2 in this case) had a back stop, etc. Once they figured they could not get me on anything they told me to keep moving so they could get back to catching poachers. I continued hiking down the road towards camp, laughing the whole way.
