Ever had one of "those" seasons?
« on: October 29, 2011, 01:46:37 PM »
I just can't catch a break. I missed most of deer season because I have had a sinus infection and/or bronchitis for last 3 weeks. Finally thought I had the sickness pretty much beat and headed to "my spot" dark and early this morning. Sneaked into the reprod where I had seen deer tracks previously. Pulled off my impersonation of a stump so well that a chipmunk came up to within 3 feet of me. We eyeballed each other for about 3 minutes, before he decided he had better things to do. Seemed to be going well, I was enjoying the outdoors, then my 12 hour Sudafed wore off about 5 hours early and the sneezing and runny nose returned with a vengeance to ruin the rest of my hunt. :bash: Hope next year goes better.

I did something similar recently with a squirrel but he got to within a few inches of me before I moved! I thought the little bugger was going to try and climb me or something and I don't know if that could happen without me making a bunch of racket trying to root the little turd out of my jacket or something  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: When I moved he ran off like his feet were on fire and his ass was catching! I looked over a minute later and could just see these little eyes peering over the end of a log at me. At this point I am busting a gut trying not to laugh out loud when he decides that I have played some dirty trick on him and started yelling at me at the top of his voice, I had tears in my eyes at this point I was laughing so hard...I didn't see any deer that day but that little bugger sure cracked me up!

Better luck in the late season.

Hey Frank, that just proves that you can piss someone or something off no matter where you are. ha ha get off the computer and get out in the woods.
Sorry Atroxus I couldn't resist. I feel for ya buddy, I suffer from the same affliction in the spring and fall. It's impossible to sneeze quietly. Better luck next year.

One elk season I had a really bad cough, I think the stores in CleElum thought we were cooking meth with all the cough syrup I bought, still was no help.
I spent most of my time in camp, really sucked !
Tried just about everything, but just when I thought it was over, hack, hach, hak ! :'( :bash:

I hunted 1 elk season with a bad cold.
Took sudafed, contact and dayquil, all together, everyday. Nary a sniffle.
Got my bull, went home, stopped the meds.
Cold kicked my butt, had to go to the doc.
When they asked what I was taking, I told them. The doc fainted.
She said I was so over medicated, my body was plugged up.
No meds for 2 weeks, hacked up some horrible looking crap,
while I ate my elk steak. :chuckle:
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

Ya, I have read a lot of stories of hunters getting busted by squirrels who then alerted every deer in a 5 mile radius with their racket. I dunno if chipmunks are as vocal as squirrels but I wasn't taking any chances. I stayed still as I could till the little bugger left and he didn't make a sound.

If I was smart I would have taken extra Sudafed with me, but it usually lasts the full 12 hours on me. Dunno why it didn't today.  :dunno:

I would love to hunt late season, but the only hunting area I know and have scouted isn't open for late season. If anyone is willing to let me tag along with them during late season on the west side shoot me a PM though. ;)

I frequently commune with the jedi chipmonks they rarely make noise..skirrels on the other hand....I pitched a rock at one to shut him up....didn't hit him but hit the tree next to him...amazingly he shut up..... :dunno:  my very first elk season two years ago I had a cold or flu right before... sucks trying to hunt with sniffling sneezing and coughing
