pre rut has started
« on: October 24, 2011, 09:04:49 AM »
went out this weekend and on sat i seen 10 deer in my honey hole...one of them looked to be a buck but didnt get a good look at first...after about 2hrs he got out of his bed in a ravine and started chasin 3 does around and lip curling...it was pretty awsome to watch this...but he just wasnt big enough for me to shoot...looked to be a small forky..he was about 400yds off...went to the same spot sunday only to be fogged in till almost 11am..second weekend in a row...after about an hour waitin in the fog the coyotes started yelpin and howling then somethin they hunted down started screamin...sounded like  a deer screamin...after the fog lifted and 2hrs of glassin and no deer in the area i figured the yotes chased all the deer out of the area and decided to do some preditor callin...did a couple coyote howls and a rabbit distress then a couple fawn distress calls and not even 5 min later a big yote showed up at the edge of the timber 400yds away...i took a poke at it and shot just under it  :bash: pretty cool to call in my first dog

A couple of my modern season buddies were reporting good action in 124 as well.  Bucks sparring fairly aggressively over the weekend

Watched 2 forked horns sparring in 145 the week before modern started.  Sat in the middle of the road and took some pics (I'll have to look for them tonite).  There was an older forked horn right there watching the two youngsters go at it.
