Great Buck! No matter what you call it. I'd put my money on when it snows, that buck would head east. Mule deer, just one that strayed a little to far.

Never hunted blackies so I don't have an opinion. But can someone clarify for me that if I'm up hunting say off hwy 20 north cascades and I'm on the west side towards the top and shoot a Muley that strayed over too far west is it legal? I'd say no, but after seeing that deer it might be hard to tell if it is Muley or blackie.

That thing is a stud for sure and will score well.  Antlers definately do not look typical of our Wa Blacktails.  More like the Ca Blackies.  No matter though, that is a beautiful deer: muley, blacktail or bench leg.  Thanks for the pics.

If it's on the right side of the line it is legal.  That area has a ton of mule deer / bench leg bucks.   I would agree that horn color does not dictate what species it is.  All it dictates is what tree / foliage they were rubbing their antlers on.  having lived and hunted on both sides of Stevens pass I can tell you the foliage is the same from Everett to about lake Wenatchee area.  What is more convincing is the width and character of the horns, lends me to believe that it is more mule deer than black tail.  It's muzzle color and characteristics to its face also lends me to say it is a muley.

FACT OF THE MATTTER IS IT IS A GREAT BUCK!!!!!!!  CONGRATS TO THE HUNTER.
