I have 2 Encores and 4 different barrels and love them. The difference between the Pro Hunter and the Encore is the stocks, the swing hammer and the fluted barrels. Mine drive tacks with the 300 win mag barrel and the .22-250 barrel. I also have a .280 barrel and a 7mm Rem Mag barrel but I haven't shot either of them yet. I did some trigger work, replaced the hammer springs with heavier springs, added the hammer extender to the main frame I use and it made for some great improvements. The barrels are all interchangeable between the Encore and the Pro Hunter and if you have an Encore and want the swing hammer, T/C will install it for you if I remember correcttly for about $100.00. If you like single shots, you'll probably love the T/C's. There's a few other guys on here that have them too.

I bought my first Encore back in the early 80's. It was the 308 pistol with 15" barrel. Open sights at 100yds I can hit a paper plate, it's awesome. Bought my next Encore early 2k sometime, stainless frame. I also have four barrels, 7mm mag stainless, 28" fluted with a Nikon Prostaff 3x9 that I use for muleys and elk, it's a tack driver. Have the 24" stainless in 280 with the same scope, another tack driver and then a blued '06 that I hardly ever shoot, should try to sell that one. I go for the meat so I go for head or neck shots, hasn't failed yet. I'm crossing my fingers for the upcoming Margaret cow hunt in november, the 7mm will be going along for sure, it's zero'd in at 200yds. Like my Evinrude E-Tec, I'd get rid of my wife before I'd get rid of my Encores. They're easy to change barrels and stocks too. A friend recommended an oversized pin so I got one and it's in the stainless frame and I've still got the stock pin in the blued frame, both work just fine. Good luck

i am a huge a fan of TC i have 2 encores, 1 pro hunter (stock)  &  with 5 barrels, 22-250, 22, 300 win mag, 45/70 & a smooth 20 ga. all of the rifles are more accurate then i am for sure. it is all i have hunted with in the last 15 years. i do want to add a hammer extender witch i guess requires a new stiffer spring. jackelope you did your own trigger? was it just swapping springs?

I forgot I have the #1 oversize pin from Bellm TC's in both of mine.

Encore 280... what bullets are you shooting through your 280 barrel?

I bought a box of Rem. KoreLokt 140's years ago and used them in my Rem. 700 and the Encore and I liked 'em. Now I reload and use Rem. 150 psp's from Midway and they do good. I should stick with the 140's I spose cuz they do just fine on blacktails.

I have a Pro Hunter that I hunted with last year in .300 Win Mag.  Very accurate barrel (in fact I have a couple barrels and they are all impressively accurate) but I chose to go back to a magazine style rifle this year.  I love the single shot thing but I am struggling on deciding how important having a really quick back up shot (or two) is when hunting.  This year I needed a quick second shot and I am not sure I would have tagged out if I had my Encore in my hands.  Anyone go through this debate?

Does it effect the zero much when you swap barrels? Or are they still dead on?

Dead on.
The scope is mounted to the barrel so you're not affecting that at all. 2 screws takes the foregrip off, you knock the "hinge pin" out, and your barrel and scope is off. I can swap out a barrel in less than 10 minutes tops assuming I drop one of the screws and have to untangle the sling.

Thats super cool! Now if i could just get over the single shot thing they would be perfect. I really like that you can get a 28" barrel for the magnums.

Does your 300 win mag have a muzzle brake Josh?
Some people spend their entire life wondering if they made a difference. Marines don't have that problem.

Yes, it has a Defensive Edge brake on it.

Does that make me a sissy-boy?

The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.
