Where to take pic's of big horn sheep Cle Elum area???
« on: October 25, 2011, 01:07:33 PM »
I have a friend that will be staying in the Cle Elum area for a few weeks.  He is big time into photography and really wants to get some pictures of some big horn sheep and I really don't know where to tell him to go.  I know there are some up in that general area.  And I am pretty sure all the hunting for them is over so if I could get some info on where to send him I am guessing he should get a good chance at getting some great pic's.

There are bighorns in the Chelan area and that isn't more then about an hour and a half drive or so.

I'd hit the Yakima canyon, between Ellensburg and Yakima. Hit the pull outs and glass. Usually see tons.

Yakima canyon is an easy area to cruise and spot sheep if you're not familar with the other areas.  Hopefully you can share some of the pics.

Anywhere alnog 97A from Wenatchee to Chelan has sheep. See them almost daily this time of year. I've seen some real nice rams along that stretch.

You wont find any sheep in the Cle Elum area, like the others said  try yakima canyon, durr road, Oak creek.

There is an electronic reader board along the highway 97 warning you to not stop and look at the sheep. If you can pull off the highway completely and park you can walk the highway and see them, just be careful.

The Yakima Canyon would be his best bet.  And the easiest one at that.  I don't think its possible to drive through there and not see some sheep.  Also if you go to the Quilomene and check out the breaks along the Columbia you'll find some although that will take alot more work.
