Couldn't stand it any longer, had to post.
My 13yr old daughter Allison took her first deer this last Thursday. A nice white tailed doe from the NE part of the state.
Not the hunt I wanted for her at all as I am a hurting unit getting ready for hip replacements in the spring/summer 2012.
Allison had a few sessions of Doe and Buck fever in the 2010 season, so this year was anticipated with great enthusiasm. She really wanted to go down in our families history books as the first female in our family tree to harvest a deer, and she did it!!!
Allison dropped this deer with a 60 yard shot with her .243. She spined it as she had no clear lung shot. She followed up with a close in shot to put the deer to sleep. I quickly realized that I had not practiced with her the occasional kill shot needed on a large game animal, but she stepped right up and took it. She started it, she ended it. Allison then helped to gut the deer, carried the liver in her bare hands.... She and her brother later skinned the deer when we got to camp. She helped to quarter the animal the next day for transport. She also helped to cookup a great liver and onion dinner at camp!
Also of note is that her 15yr old brother has purposely taken the back seat, the last hiker position for two years to allow her the chance to score a deer. He shot his first deer at 13, and openly wanted her to score too, even last year when she was only 12 yrs...
One proud daddy!
