Last second deer
« on: November 04, 2011, 09:05:03 AM »
Well I headed out Monday morning to try to just fill my tag as I have to work all 4 days of late buck.  Walked in a couple miles to the cut I had been watching the past week that held a really nice 3x3.  Got to the cut at first light and sat down and proceeded to eat my rice crispy treat that my son and mother in law had made me the day before.  As I was munching away I spotted a group of deer running across the cut and coming directly at me about 300 yards away.  I cautiously put down my rice crispy treat and put the binos on them in hopes to see the 3x3 again.  All were does and the last one was a spike.  They continued coming directly at me and when they got to about 70 yards from me they slowed and started walking.  I dropped him right where he stood.  Good feeling to have filled my tag but still stings a bit that I don't get to go out for late buck.  Not a monster but he eats good.  Shot my first buck when I was a kid about 500 yards from where I shot this deer.

Thats a nice buck. Freezer is full. I hear ya though its hard to know that you wont be going out for late buck but if you have to work than your probably better off killing that buck and making sure you have some venison

I guess I'm glad I don't have to hunt late buck when I get my deer regular season or even a mule deer in the first 9 days.  My daughter still needs to fill her tag so I'll probably still be hunting.  The pressure is off for me!
