Bears near the 'Burg?

Howdy everyone,
I was wondering if any of you know about the chances of connecting with a bear near Ellensburg.  I have never shot a bear and would love to get one this year, preferably somewhere that I don't need to sell my left kidney to afford the gas to get there.  Any help would be really appreciated!  Safe hunting!
