East side gates  out of Lk Merrill area are closed. They are logging the hell out of the 7200, 7500 areas.

Up on top today deer huntin, there are some awesome rubs up there.

I'm a custom Callmaker. Making a cool elk call out of moose horn. And been wanting to make a call out of some cool blacktail from your area. Just excited to get to hunt the Toutle finely. Rick

I'll be up there also. Plan on leaving Thursday. 15 years in the making. Better be as good as it once was. Just heard a rumor that the WDFW released two sets of wolves up there to decrease the herd size. Now that is brilliant thinking. They will decimate it and we won't be able to get rid of them. At least we get to hunt it before they start breading and taking over. Good luck up there.

In the late 80's i did very well in the timber archery. miss those days was alot of elk on the coast then. i use the same toneboard as Jason Phelps. except he doe's more stuff to the board. i used them back in 2005 . i can do elk sounds with my personal toneboards but they are loud. i'll show a picture today making some to sale on my hunt. That is just a rumor.  If the WDFW released two sets of wolves they wouldn't own up to it.  Also they wouldn't do it.  Not saying there isn't a wolf up there just I doubt WDFW released it.  The wolf hippies released them.    :twocents:

I was planning on camping down by Cougar as well, but have heard that the logging has caused most of the gates to be closed. Does anyone know what gates will be open and what gates will be closed down there?

I came through there Sunday and they have evreything locked down.
The logging operations are in the thinned area along the 82 rd back towards the lava beds, and from the 7200 around the north side of the lake.
A very large area.
Signs are posted on the 7200 and 7500, no vehicle access.
I think that herd is probably pushed east toward Cougar or west past Lake View Peak.
