xd sub compact or glock?
«
on:
October 31, 2011, 06:36:14 AM »
Looking to buy a gun for concealing. I narrowed it down to the xd sub compact 40 or glock. The xd is heavier than the glock but I like the feel of the xd better. How important is the weight factor when concealing? I'm trying to stay around $450 range. I shot the xd before but never the glock. Thoughts?

Are you looking at XD or XDm? If you go with an XD, just make sure you get one of the newer ones (probably not a factor anymore). I know in like 2005-2006ish they changed the finish on the slide of the XDs to better control rust. I have the finish from before that and it can be a pain to keep rust off in this environment.

Yes new xd, I could be wrong but they do make a sub compact in the xdm. Thanks for pointing out the rust issue.

Sorry, you're right. Only the compact in xdm.

XD for the grip angle, ergonomics, grip safety.

Realistically, weight is a non-issue with a decent belt. I carry a 35ish oz all steel cqb compact with zero issues. I do need to make sure I have a real good belt for the 43 oz railed full size 1911. But for the compact that clocks in well over 30 oz I can make do with a web style belt and Kramer horsehide belt scabbard.

Either one should work fine, more personal preference than anything.

The only way to tell which one YOU prefer more is to go shoot them. Everyone is going to have their own opinion but really it comes down to your comfort. Me personally will never own a Glock, they feel horrible in my hand. The grip angle is to severe, the weight distribution is horrible, and I am also big on external safeties and live chamber indicators which glock's do not have to my knowledge. As someone already mentioned though a good belt and holster combo will eliminate almost all of the worries about weight. My FN comes in it at right around 27 ounces before you put a loaded mag in it and I can't even tell its on my hip most of the time.

good info. I'm going to shoot the glock this week. I agree I do not like the lack of safety on the glock. I like the XD and the way it shot, plus just holding the glock I found it not be a good fit. My brother-in-law has a glock and when he shoots the slide catches his skin. Not good.

I've never owned a Glock, but have had XD's, and like them. Glocks are fine guns, but I have a real concern about the only safety being in the trigger. As a former LE friend said a while back: "A Glock is not a gun for an inexperienced shooter." I purchased an FN FNX-9 a while back, and like it so much that I sold my 40-XD Sub-compact to buy an FNP-40.

I have the XDM 3.8 in 9mm and the XD .40 subcompact. I like the XD .40 much better. Shoots
great...easy to conceal. $445.00 @ Sport Co. Springfield Armoury is also giving away 3 free clips
if bought before the end of the year.
