Savage 111 Long Range Hunter - Do you have one? Would love some feedback!

Decided to order one of these bad boys... ordered it in 6.5x284 Norma.

Do you have one? If so, what should I expect? Good/Bads? Updgrades, etc?

I would expect a shooter with a stock that may or may not fit you too great, if you are going to shoot it a lot I see a small quantity of tools in your future and a barrel every so often. Shilen sells barrels ready to go for Savage actions pretty reasonably too

In regards to the stock.. The Accustock is pretty good, and apparently very rigid.. my concern in getting another one is how unique the bedding seems to be with the Accustock vs bedding an aftermarket, B&C, HS Precision, McMillian, etc... Thoughts?

As far as barrel... I know I will practice, but no where near I think to a point I would burn out the barrel. The 6.5x284 is a wildcat, but only roughly 60 grains of powder. I do not know how I could fry the barrel unless I went over 1K rounds.. which I dont see myself doing. probably 100 rounds a year, MAX. If I did get it rebarreled, then that is fine too, I am hoping that I at least get some great MOA performance out of it for several years before needing to do so though.

Excited about loading for this caliber though.. For Deer and under it sounds amazing.

I would think any of the stocks you mention would be at least equivalent if not a significant improvement over the factory stock but if you are just going to use it as a hunting rifle I'm sure the Accu-stock will be just fine. Just remember to use your torque wrench when you reinstall the barreled action in your stock if you take it out to clean it or adjust the trigger etc.

I thought the new accu stock was special and better than most aftermarket.    I want the new .338 Lapu Mag in the long range hunter.  That looks like a fun rifle to shoot.

I dont know if the accustock is better, but if you look at the bedding technology video, it seems to put pressure evenly around the receiver as opposed to just 2 bolts. But, I bet a nice HS precision or B&C would probably be just as good. The karsten cheek piece is kinda unique though.

I have the 116 with accustock.  It came with a lot of plastic flash around the mid line seam that needed to be sanded off but some fine sand paper took it right off.  Now the stock looks and feels ont he cheek as good as it shoots.

I handled one earlier this week at Cabela's.  VERY light.  A nice looking firearm as well.  Who's gonna be the first to pick one up?

So,

Here is the report:

AWESOME RIFLE.

130 Grain Accubonds with RL 22 loaded -0.02 off the lands got me MOA at 200 yards.

For me, the 6.5x284 does not give enough kick for the muzzle break to be turned open, but nice to have none the less.

What I noticed...

The barrel is NOT free floated at the forend tip.. there seems to be some deliberate pressure there. Thought this was VERY interesting as MANY Savages are free floated. BUT, its not like it would matter with the results Im getting and composite stock.

With the Nikon 4-12x42 Scope, weight was exactly 10 lbs.

Action feels SUPER solid.

Jury is still out on the recoil pad.. I like how nice and soft it is, but I dont know how durrable it is.

Overall, for the money.. this rifle is SUPER tough to beat and the caliber is really unique and cool too.

I remove my accutriggers and replace them with Rifle Basix triggers. way nicer and smoother than any trigger savage ever made.

Why would you waste the extra money spent on the rifle equipped with an accu-trigger when you could pick up a Stevens and add the basix trigger?
