Hell of a nice bull Wall.  I was born and raised in Moxee, on Beauchene rd.  Nice to see someone else from that area!

Heres a recap of the season

Monday Morning of the Any Bull Opener I wheel out of camp to stars in the sky and light snow falling.  I make it to my spot where I plan to sit for a while and as the sun rises the fog moves in and I can’t see crap.  So I decide this is no good I’ll head for the timber where maybe I can see more than ten feet.  Much better view in the timber but not the start I was looking for about 8:30 and shots ring out from the direction of my cousin three shots and no chatter on the radio he missed.  About 15 minutes later three more shots ring out a little further away.  It is another guy from our camp he comes over the radio saying well I shot the bigger one of the two it is a 1x2 and his season is over.  It was his first elk ever and he was ecstatic.  So I decide to pack up shop and head down to help him get his elk out.  On the way down I spot my first elk she is a big cow with an orange radio collar around her neck.  She laid still as can be and as I put the sneak on in her direction she disappeared without a sound and I never seen her again.  Day 2 everyone hit the woods again back to our spots from the day before no luck this day but great to put on the ten miles in the woods.  Day three time to try a different approach on the timber I had been working just wasn’t seeing the animals I thought had to be in there.  Walk and walk and walk to no avail return to camp about 1:00 nobody had seen anything.  Decide I would ride up and sit on the clear cut for the evening hunt.  Just as I thought it might be getting prime for animals to wander out of the timberline shots ring out again this time the radio chatter picks up and it is my cousin who missed opening day saying I got one down.  What is it well a rag horn he says.  Gets down to it and it actually is a decent 5x5.  Ok evening hunt over for me I pack up shop and head over to help him get it out hopefully before dark.  We did it had it in the back of the truck whole before dark.  The next day we decide to head over to milk lake and see what things are like over there.  7:40 in the morning one shot and a radio transmission got one down it is a 6 point.  Well crap good job but there goes another morning hunt where I am helping another hunting partner pack out an elk.  This one was a little further in and we had to quarter it up to get him out so it took a good part of the morning.  Friday Morning arrives ok I think today is my day we head out for milk lake again on our way we head down the steep rocky trail and my cousin gets a little sideways on his quad heading down the hill it doesn’t work out well for him he bails as it rolls the first time then scrambles like a cat covering crap to get out of its path for about the next 4 rolls finally safe out of its path he sits and watches it continue to tumble about 100 more feet.  I was a little freaked out as I was right behind him.  He was ok and we picked up all the pieces to his wheeler bent the handlebars back up and the polaris fired right up we completed the morning hunt finding a few elk and a goat but no big bulls.  He road the wounded warrior back to camp and parked it.  I went back over that night and saw a huge herd bull but just couldn’t get a shot that’s why he’s as big as he is I guess.  Saturday morning ok time to get serious with all the new hunters taking the field for the general season I have to fill my tag with something I am starting to get nervous.  I head up into the meadow and figure with all the pressure I am going to sit myself down and wait.  I hear shots ring out at 7:35 a spike falls down and three other elk take off, 2 cows head for the timber and a confused six point turns and heads straight for me.  I get to shaking gather myself with a big breath and let loose the 300 win mag.  Instant red blood behind the front shoulder he humps up and stays on his feet I shoot again hit him about ½ inch from the first shot (determined this while skinning him out) he folded up shop and was down. I let out a big yahoo on the radio and turned around to see my dad running up the hill to see me and what I had shot.  He was super excited and so was I 7:40 a.m. my tag was full.  The next night I decided to sit in a little makeshift blind with my dad to try and fill his tag.  We sat there and the fog moved in so we decided to head lower to try and get under it for the last hour of light.  We made it down under the fog found a place to sit and about 20 min before dark a big cow steps out her calf in tow.  Another minute a another cow appears I think ok here we go.  Nothing else the cows fed right down to us about 20 yards away just eating and talking to each other I kept looking where they came form and out of the corner of my eye I see another elk standing with those cows where did he come from?  It was a bull I whisper to dad there’s a bull. Where?  Right there.  Ok boom fire flies from the barrel and the elk boogies to the trees one more blast and the elk disappears.  We need to get in there it is getting dark I head for the trees as soon as I break the tree line I see tan fur on the ground I holler here he is hes dead a nice tall 1x2.  one of the better moments dad and I got to share each others experiences a hunt to remember for the ages.

SOunds like a great hunt, congrats on filling all the freezers.  Dang nice bull you got there!
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.

I saw your camp on Sunday and Monday.  Thought about stopping, but my son and I were trying to fill our tags too.  Great write up.   Congrats to you and all the guys at camp.

I have all of the meat cut wrapped and in the freezer tastes excellent.  my four quarters were 410lbs hanging a fair amount bigger than the 1x2 of my dads now all i need back is my head from the taxidermist so i can stare at that instead of the pictures every day.  still enjoying the memories of the season and preparing for next year wish i could be out in the woods and sit around a nice camp fire every day of the year. :)

That one 1x2 is awesome. Uncle had peaches archery tag a few years ago and We saw a bull that looked exactly identical to that bull. Genetics in the area maybe?  :dunno:
