Eastern WA mixed bag

last weekend Gasman and I got to hook up with Vandeman17 for a little eastern side bird hunting.  Definitely had a great time out there though our shooting lacked just a tad... 

when Vandeman17 said it would be an hour walk to the "spot" he wasn't kidding...especially in waders..lol.  we got there, set up early and listened to birds fly over our heads for an hour before we could shoot them.  then an hour after shoot time we were a half a box of shells lighter, and no birds..lol. oh well..but our luck was to change.  A few minutes later, Gasman ripped off a shot and then all i heard was him laughing and a THUD!  The bird landed behind us about 5 ft from our bags so we didn't have to do much work getting that one.  Few hours later when the birds quit flying around, we found ourselves on our way out with 5 ducks, a fat goose (which was a luck shot..at best), and Gasman's first colored (male anatomy) pheasant.  Nice bird too.

Sunday was so windy we couldn't get any birds to come around..and ended up with 1 duck and 1 quail.  Overall great weekend and cant wait to get back over there. Only bad part was Gasman's dog, Buddy, got water tail  on Saturday but stuck with us on Sunday like a trooper (he's doing great now).  That's one tough dog to keep out of the water...lol

That was a great weekend of hunting, thats for sure 

Cant wait to go back again 

Buddy is back to normal now, jumping up and down, wagging his tail, knocking his tail in to every thing    I did find that the vest was also rubbing agest his arm pits on his front legs and caused some open sores, but they are healing well.

And I cooked up that goose tonight for dinner, and everyone liked it  I got the phesant in the freezer, all seasoned up and waiting for thanksgiving dinner. I am going to have it then. It will only be up in the hills dirring late elk, so I think I will have stuffed phesant for my thanksgioving dinner

Glad you guys had a good time and we will have to do it again soon. I agree that I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn Saturday morning but it was still cool to see that many birds flying. Good to hear that Buddy is back to his normal self!

Just gotta be careful when shooting pheasant/quail while duck hunting due to the hunter orange requirement. If I am in an area where I could shoot both, I wear orange while walking around, then take it off when in the duck blind.

Yes, i always carrie an ornge vest in my back pack for many reasons. Even during archery season there is a ornge vest in my pack 

I knew there were phesant and quail in the area, so a few times I would dawn the vest in search of them bugger, and it paid off

On Saturday I think they were too busy reloading their guns and watching the ducks to see many pheasants.  I was a little ways away and smiled every time I heard the "bang..bang bang.... bang bang bang" On any given day we will see and hear at least a dozen pheasants within a few hundred yards of where we duck hunt.

There was plenty of Bang...bang..bang....bang....bang coming from where you guys wer at to there buddy. and I do believe the two of us shgot more birds the the three of you 

This was the only phesant I seen. Heard them in the tall cat tails anbd grass but this was the only one I seen. Low97ram jumped two not 40 yards behind where we were hunting. He was caught off gaurd and never got a shot off at them 

Next timne, I am hunting the area Adam was in and bring home more phesant

I agree that there was just as much shooting from our side, if not more and probably more missing. I couldn't figure out what the heck I was doing and once you miss a few, they seem to get harder and harder to hit! Next time we will just hunt ducks for an hour or two then go get our limit of pheasants!
