Got a few new visitors!!! Success Buck down.
« on: November 16, 2011, 08:06:40 PM »
This season has been pretty frustrating.  The new 4 pt min meant all the big boys were no where to be found and the small basket racks got to taunt me all of the early season and up till a few days ago.  Now out of nowhere I got a few new visitors, hopefully they'll bear there heads while its daylight and I'm in the stand.  Looks like they'de both score pretty good, I'm guessing 150's on the first, 160's on the second. What do you guys think of these bucks?

No idea on what they would score. Both are good bucks and both of them are shooters  :twocents:

First one is probably high 120's and the second is closer to the 140 mark.  Just a guess though.

No luck this AM on stand, had a large doe and two button bucks move through just before shooting light, then, nothing.  Checked the camera card, had 7-8 different bucks in last night all thru the night and only 2 does..  I'm guessing these guys are covering alot of ground at night looking for some more does.  Hopefully one of these guys will slip up this afternoon.

I try to stay on stand as long as possible, but the lull of the day gets to me.  I'll be back up there around 1 today.  Think I'll try hanging a few cottonballs covered in doe pee.  The bucks look rutty but I have yet to see any chasing, and have yet to get any pictures of the bucks with the does.  I'm suprised they moved through so much last night with the wind and snow we were getting.

I haven't got any pics during that time either, but... story coming.  Although I have to disagree on the scores, I understand as its hard to judge a pic, but the buck I took last year went over 150 gross and was slightly smaller than the big one above. :twocents:

Ok, so I got back in the stand around 1 and sat quietly letting things calm down after crunching my way back there thru this wet/frozen snow.  At about 1:30 I heard a snap in the distance to my right.  Thinking maybe another hunter(I rattled one in a few days ago), but decided I would hit the doe bleat a few times and see what happened.  Nothing happened, waited a about 20 minutes and heard snow crunching off to my right.  Saw legs under the trees, then the body of a deer, then I saw the antlers coming out of the trees.  I tried to raise my rifle up to my shoulder and it got hung up on my vest creating a sound comparable to a chimpmunk stuck in a net.  The deer perked up and began glaring at me, I knew that if I joined in the staredown he would run as soon as he decided he didn't want to play anymore, so I slowly continued raising the rifle.  He took a step forward hiding his head behind a tree, with another tree blocking his rear quarter.  So I steadied, while he was quartering to me, put the crosshairs between the neck and the shoulder and let her go.  He ran about 20 yds in a circle before expiring.  Bullet broke the front left leg and cut the top of the heart off.  Not either of the big ones above, but dang good enough for me.

Thanks for the compliments guys.  I'm proud of him.  Rough gross score of 126 (I'm not an official scorer), couldn't be more pleased with how it worked out.  He was standing within 20 yds of where I got my buck last year, and was only about 25 yds away from me in the tree.  Glad it worked out.
