I was in Fall River county, the roads were fine until we got to missoula coming home, I suspect they are getting worse though.

Here's the story
Friday morning we get up to go scout and head to a large tract of walk in only land that we had seen bucks in years past as soon as we get there we spot a big 5 pt whitetail tending a doe, its predominantly muley country but we figure this is a good sign and head towards some other areas we had marked on the map.  After scouting all morning and again that evening we decide to head to the spot with the 5 pt., of course he was not to be found and I didn't see a deer all morning.  That afternoon we tried a different spot we call the honey hole we drop my brother in law off on one end of the property and within an hour he has shot a 20 in wide 4 pt muley a good respectable buck for the area, we help him get it out and wrap up opening day skinning his deer.  That evening I decide to go back to the spot with the 5 pt not wanting to give up on the area because the Cheyenne river was close and a good patch of timber also so I knew there were deer in the area. The next morning we arrived about 20 minutes later than I would have liked to but still have the spot all to ourselves.  I immediately spot a herd of 10-12 muleys on the neighboring property I glass them and find a shooter with them, so I tell my buddies I'm going to take this deer on the off chance they cross the fence, no sooner had I said that and one of the does turns and runs towards the fence I need them to cross, to my amazement the whole herd follows her, I set up for a shot but the buck won't stop chasing does around, he finally slows and I shoot with no response from the buck I knew I had missed, so I jack another round in figuring I had misjudged the distance I found him in the scope just as he was about to go out of sight I aimed just above his back and touched one off immediately I recognized the tell tale sound of a hit deer.  The whole herd buck included heads down into a large draw when they come out the other side the buck is not with them.  I head out after him when I finally spot him I can see his front leg is busted and he's moving very slowly he steps behind some juniper and I take the only shot I had in the back leg this puts him down for good, when I get closer I was able to see the rest of him and finish him with a 3rd shot.  Everything had happened so quickly I hadn't really had a chance to look at his antlers very closely, I was very pleased to find out how big he actually was, 26.25" outside spread 4x5 with one long eyeguard, my biggest buck to date.  I had a great feeling of accomplishment but at the same time I was kind of bumbed because I knew my hunt was over and we were only to the morning of day 2.  I had a killer time again in SD and can't wait to go back.
