Think he'll make it another year?  What do you think?  7?  8 years old?  Older..?

I think I figured 8 or 9.  I've seen him for about 5 years now.

Cool, old buck. That to me is a real trophy deer  :twocents:

Amen WSU.  The original post had the discussion about what we consider trophies.   I think an old recessed buck in Washington is about as rare as it gets.   To me thats a trophy.  THey have survived weather, wolves, cougars, poaching, normal hunting, roads, disease, .......

Doesn't he just kinda look tired?   He was around does this year but I'm not sure he was even rutting or showing much interest.

Yep he sure does look tired.  Can you imagine the gene pool he has left over the years?  I remember a few years back I was watching a show where an old buck like him just didn't have the strength to do anything after another rut season and just laid down next to a road and stayed there for 3 days because he couldn't get up.  This elderly hunter who had not filled his tag yet went ahead and shot him to put him out of his misery.  The meat had to be ground up just to eat it.

You kind of can't help but feel sorry for those oler ones.

Yeah, when I am too old to rut anymore, somebody just put me out of my misery... :chuckle:
