daytime rut peaks????
« on: November 18, 2011, 11:36:58 PM »
i feel weird asking this, not a novice to deer, but this is my second season with a bow. i have been assuming that when they are rutting hard its an all day deal (24hrs). i plan on staying in the field from dark to dark, not a bad idea, but am i wasting anytime, i dont think i would be, but do they rut hard throughout the day, or is it morning evening. i'm kinda thinking as long as the urine is on the ground, and the wood is hard, maybe it dont matter.  are their daylight peak times???

also if the weather turns to *censored*, i'm south of spokane, is that the best time or the worst to be out there.  any opinions????

Can't provide much help on this topic, but can say the WT rut is on in the NE.  One of my hunting buddies was following a buck and doe track in the new snow today, and walked up to the buck at 70 yards and made the rifle shot.  Nice mature 5 x 5 in a 4 Pt min area.

Yeah...Was thinking he same thing, all day.  gonna be on the ground, with a montana decoy and rattlin', gonna try and hunt 'em like elk. last yeah i was able to kill a deer simply by crunching snow, it came from 75 yards away. curiosity got it killed, but that was Nov 29, and rutting had slowed alot, it lseemed like. Last year i was snowed in and couldnt even leave the house, till the 28th. this year i'm stoked to get right on it, from the jump. if snow allows.

Same plan as you Gearhead but over here on the westside. I hope the blacktail will get curious of why a whitetail is in their woods (they only make WT Montana decoys) :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
