I've been waterfowling for 35 years, have 3 bands...one from a Snow goose and two from Mallards...both of the mallards were the same trip to Potholes...

I dont know how one could see them on the birds coming in...I guess its the luck of the draw.

Whatta ya mean I can't have one of each?

What we have here is...Washington Department of NO Fish and WATCHABLE Wildlife.

The poaching in reference was thought of as a single waterfowling individual, Jeff Foiles was accused of parking geese.  This happened as someone had banded all the park geese and placed neck collars on them.  He was ratted out as having used Wonder Bread to lure them in and shoot them with a pellet rife in a park.  This is an extreme measure and a very poor decision.  Since neck collars seem rare in the NW corner, poaching of banded birds is highly unlikely.  It was never the less a stretch of a statement based off an article.
I see a lot of individuals sporting fake bands these days.  They wouldn't wear them if they had seen a real one up close.  Those that spend most of the season out hunting and happen to be located in high banding areas will most definitely see an increase in birds harvested with bands.  Some may shoot multiple per year, where most will not ever shoot one.  I have heard a figure of about 1 per 100 birds harvested, but that doesn't seem to hold true.  3 years ago I shot 5 banded birds in a two week
period.  luck of the draw.

Ive been hunting for around 15 years now. And all I can say, is there is no real logic on getting a band. Sometimes it seems that you cant stop getting them and other times you and your buddies cant seem to find one. Last year I didnt get a single band. But the year before I got 9.  :dunno: You just never know :twocents:

I have only gotten three in my life & they are in a case that i made to hold all my old calls. I have hunted with guys that had many on thier lanyards, but they seemed to be heavy, noisey &  shiney. when these guys reach for a call there is always noise & fumbling
I love to get a banded duck but i dont think carrying them around with me is needed.

I saw at a ex friends house a use of bands other than laynards.  He had them on some of his taxidereid birds. If I ever get a banded bird I may do the same.

I started getting into waterfowlhunting in 2009. I shot my first band last year in december, it was a young of the year greenhead. So far this season I've gotten 3 more bands, all mallards, 2 drakes and 1 hen. All young of the year local birds. Not as cool as getting one thats a few years old but still pretty cool none the less. I've been pretty lucky when it comes to shooting bands it seems.

One band I got a few years back was from a bird banded in New York from 8 or 9 years prior, I can't quite remember. I am sure if that greenhead could have talked, he would have had some adventures to share.

That IS crazy. that is why bands are special. As far as I'm concerned foiles or whover he is doesn't represent duck hunting. He represents himself and him alone and people are prone to gross human error. To hell with the anti's. don't give them any credit because they don't deserve it. We know they all have a warped view of the world. Hey Skagit, if your around vancouver area over the holidays your welcome to hunt with me. If you drink, i'll hand you a fifth of crown royal to put in your jacket and if we start knocking down some ducks, i'll hand you a cigar. Now that's old school. I know, don't drink and drive.  Never had a dui or been to an AA meeting in my life. a shot here and there to warm up the pipes doesn't hurt :chuckle:

Sorry, I will be there Friday for work. But will NEVER mix alcohol and guns.....Alcohol makes you colder, Thins your blood LOL.
I don't really need to travel to hunt. Skagit has all the birds one needs. All you need to know is where to look....Look up when they leave the bays and follow them. Ask permission and be on them in the morning. simple. Or have private that the birds like to use.

Ya, I was shocked when I got the certificate back. I will have to dig through my files and look it up again but it was an old bird and yes, it was shot in Eastern Washington.

What is foiled? And parking? I've never heard of it.
What would life be without the thrill of the hunt?
