duck/goose bands? how long did you hunt till you got one
« on: November 20, 2011, 02:15:17 PM »
I have hunted ducks on and off for about five years, nothing really serious but have prob harvested around 100 birds and have not harvested any with bands, I know its random but was just curious how everyone else has done

I know some people that have gone YEARS without any bands and some that shoot them their first year. I think it is just luck of the draw.

If I get one I will prob sell it on Ebay for the cash. I will get the info first. Band are for the VANE. I HAVE SHOT 1000'S OF BIRDS. bf. I respect every bird I have harvested.
I entered the contest to prove hard work and love of birds will prevail. BF.  If I get votes. but seeing 1000 birds trying to land on you....LOL
BANDS are cool. But the people that need to say look what I have.......Are putz LOL

I got my first one in 1970something.  Back then you mailed the bands in and if you were lucky they sent you a report on the where the bird was banded.  I’ve never understood all the hoopla over bands and I’ve never kept any.

I do not think the band is more important then the bird, my excitement about getting a banded bird would be getting the info about the bird from turning the band info in

Skagit- I don't know where you are coming off by thinking that people are vane who like bands. I have 5 myself and I just think it is a cool when you get one because it is a perk and I really enjoy finding out where the bird was from. Take it easy on the stereotypes  :bdid:

THAT'S IT !!!! This band crap has got people like foiles and "PARKING"
This band crap has taken hunting to a all time low. I remember as stated before... send the band in for the report. Now It is a status as look at me.... I need bands to show I Know something... PFFFFFT!

I myself have twelve over 5 years and I don't think most people go out bird hunting with the intentions of only hoping to far a banded bird. And skagit , your saying if you got a banded bird you'd be just as excited as shooting an unbanded bird? I don't buy it. bands are just a perk of the sport and to say people placing them on their lanyard as an ego thing and that its ruining the sport is bogus.

Bands are cool to get. Like Vandeman17 says, its a perk. For me, its not to showoff, its just kinda cool reliving that time ago, as I look at my lanyard. To sell a band on ebay (or anywhere) for the almighty dollar is, to me, cheap. Granted, some could use the cash for higher priorities but, I could find other ways to squeeze out $10-$20. Also, a lanyard is the perfect place to store the suckers. In my experience I get a band for about every 250 birds (ducks). If your also a band hunter theres ways (that are legal, not the Foiles way) to up those odds (read about it but, forgot the details).

I was lucky enough to get two my first year ever waterfowling. Unfortunately I lost my first one (still kicking myself for that one, ddnt have a lanyard to put it on yet)

Since then I nobody in my group has gotten one. That year I think we got 4 or 5, it was a good year for bands
