I agree with all of the above. I have been pretty vocal about this thread. Since this is predominantly
A hunting site I don't think a lot of people know or care about these issues. Put that kind of pic up on anyone of the fishing forums and they would eat you alive.

While I agree with you Button Nubbs (I never saw the picture) it does sound like poor handling technique was used here you really don't teach the guy anything by jumping all over his ass.

So far I am pretty sure the guy knows he would get turned in for sharing what was obviously to him a treasured moment and would get his birthday taken away and tarred and feathered too if people around here could manage it in between time spent tying the noose. Try just teaching people the right way to do things instead of just immediately alienating them, the damage was already done at the time this pic was taken...
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

i never said anything about turning the guy in. :dunno: this regulation is nothing new, if memory serves me correct it was put into place in 2004 or 2005, cant recall the exact year. i really dont give a shi+ if the guy feels like an ass, or is pissed off from me blasting him. what if i went out and shot a deer but couldnt find it in an area that used to be open but isnt now? sure, maybe it lived, maybe it didnt. you think id get blasted for that type of thing on here, or you think people would educate me on what i shouldnt have done? thats really no different in my book. ignorance is no excuse espically when its in black and white. :twocents:

My big thing about this entire thread is did he break a law, yes, but seriously.. I bet every single one of you that are preachin about how he broke a law, breaks a law every day, we all do. there are to many stupid laws that affect all sorts of stupid things. That's all I am saying. No reason to be Jonny law on here when we already have to deal with that everywhere we go... Hell I am probibally breaking a law by calling the police Jonny law... Also, how do we know it was a native, I know hatcheries don't mark every fish they release, prime example is the Samish River and the numbers of steelhead they release on it.... And I know I have mishandled plenty of fish, but I bet not all of them died.....

I understand what you're saying, but I'm not sure keeping wild steelhead in the water and carefully releasing them is a "stupid law".  Wild steelhead are in a lot of trouble.  Glad I was able to enjoy them back in the good old days.

not a stupid law at all. sure 1 mishandled fish that dies wont be a problem in a healthy system but the skykomish is FAR from being healthy. the skykomish is currently at 1-2% of historical runs. so today, that one fish could mean alot.

You have got to be kidding me... with all the news about how bad the Steelheading has been and will be and the fact that the Native Runs are in a bunch of trouble and on top of that your handle is "Cascade_fisher" you don't know the laws of not taking a wild fish out of the water?????????????? That is just plain ignorance on your behalf!
Well good luck with the rest of your season!

Ok I think he knows he did wrong.  I don't believe he's going to do it again.  Everyone here explained the rules and thats what were here for.  To stick together as sportsman and help each other out.

Guess its true, a picture says a thousand words, and frankly none of them mean sh!t.  wanna decrease mortality of caught wild fish, then stop targeting wild fish and playing them with flyrods because it takes too long to land them. its a stupid statement, and i disagree with it, even though i said it, and even if its true, its about as stupid as bashing a guy for a picture of a fish with all your "Fish CSI experience" even though you know not a damn thing about it and weren't there.  ahhhhhhh i feel soooo much better.

I am not a big fisherman as many of the board members posting on here are. I can see how the fisherman are all "fired" up about this gentlemen posting pictures of an illegal fish. I know I personally would be "fired" up if someone posted an illegal big game animal on here since I am a hunter. I really don't think the guy knew what he was doing or else the pictures would have not been put up; ignorance on his part. But; I think the point has been made that he made a mistake so I don't see how continuing to rub the dudes face in the mud is going to help. If these fish are so close to being extinct then why doesn't the state do more to protect them? I think that the state should adopt some sort of program that Montana has for the identification of bear in their state. If a person plans on fishing a certain lake, stream or river he/she should have to take a fish identity test so they know the difference. If they can't pass the test then they don't fish.  :twocents:

That cracks me up about fly guys who think they are the ultimate fisherman and the attitude they carry, but yet they hook salmon and steelhead and play the chit out of them!! DEAD fish! when released

Unfortunatly the "fish CSI was right", the fish was dead and you can tell by their eyes almost %100 of the time on salmonids and steelhead.  A photo is worth a 1000 words.  I hope the lesson about killing the fish was learned, and not the lesson, oh I shouldn't share on the internet.  As for the conversation about fly guys versus gear fisherman, I think for the most part thats just plain dumb and someone looking for a fight.

Lets protect the resource folks.

Groundhog.  THAT WAS AN AWESOME FISH.  Way to document a treasure.

I saw two of them on Grande Ronde a few weeks ago.  My comment about making it illegal for fly rods over 11 feet was facetious in nature. But many of the fly fisherman are playing the fish wayyyyyyyyyy to long.   I could not agree more with Huntnnw.
