soooo..... The season starts to heat up. The last 4 days of the general season is aproaching and more and more rutting activity is going on. I have the last five days of October to hunt. After another great day I return to my pickup to find, that my truck has been broken into, window smashed, everything riffeled through. Wallet and duffel gone. Get the pard loaded up, pack and bikes loaded, no cell service

Need to hurry and get to cell service.... cancel, debit and credit cards. get home before it starts to pour etc..... Get to cell service area. call card companies no use on accounts

Talk to cops and file report, life is looking up

these clowns cant get me down. Gonna meet the girls for some dinner, my pard says we will have to lock the guns in the cars at the restaurant. Gun? Did you say GUN!!!! OMG !!!!In my panic I left my gun laying unloaded next to the truck

No way its gonna be there, drive back GONE!!!! Man now I am down

Theres no way I will ever get that gun back.
Go through the motions..... I am now out a truck for repairs until the end of the season and no gun. Thanks to some AWESOME friends and family I get a truck and a gun on loan. Back in business

Enjoy a couple more decent days and see some bucks. I go through the steps to file the gun as stolen, get my stuff back in order and start preparing for late buck.
Then on November 7th I get a call from State Patrol..... I figured I would never get. They have my gun!! It was turned in, there is honest folks out there

Whoever you are thank you more than words can say.....

Shoot a bunch..... get everything dialed in.
Thursday I hunted alone saw two hunters and several does. No bucks. Friday I get the girls up at 0430 to go to their aunts for the day. Roads are crap

Gonna meet the boys in the woods. We have two full days to hunt together since I have work scheduled on Sunday. Figure I am down to my last 2 days if I wanna close this deal with the rifle.
Get to the gate late and the boys are in the woods already. Head up making record time

There is alot of fog and its not helping matters. See a lone doe cross the road.... no buck in tow. Still finding some rubs and tore up trails but the frenzy seems to have definitley tapered off. Im beginning to doubt... should I stay? should I hunt somwhere else? Nah... Ive got good company, the sign is here. A buck will show. The fog lifts out and we spend a few hours pouring glass to cuts and covering some ground.
We are on our way back to finish out the last hour in a couple different holes. We get to a big clear cut and glass a bit before proceeding. Im looking down the timber edge and thinking " we cant see into that hole and along the back half of the timberline. Maybe I should move down a couple hundred yards and get a peek". Sure enough I no sooner get to a point where I have a veiw of the bottom third of the timberline going int the corner and I see "MY" buck looking into the cut. I can tell its a buck and wave to the boys to hurry down towards me,nothing happens

Apparently all our games of "crying Buck" have back fired and they are convinced im messing with them

The buck is alone and although he appears secure for the moment hes not giving me the " im gonna let you get away with anything" vibe. I quickly peel my pack off and sit down no stumps or anything handy...... Now I hear some quickening of the feet but they are still not convinced..... I throw the gun over the pack and evaluate the bucks head gear quickly. I know what Im shooting at, a reasonably tall 2 point buck with chocolate horns, good deep forks, and nice mass. Not a monster but He's " the One". I settle into the pocket, the buck is quartered hard to me.... I put the crosshairs on the white patch and fire.... BOOOM! Now I hear " well I guess there was a shooter, or hes taking this " crying buck" thing to a whole new level!

I quickly reload but the buck is down, the bullet entering about 2 inches higher than I wanted and exiting the back of the neck. Range 222 yards. I was pumped!! We quickly made our way across the cut... good buck down. 2 point with an eyeguard. Or 3 x 2 for the cheaters
It all came together, 3.5 miles from the truck, no other hunters, 2 great friends, 1 good shot and 1 beautiful buck. After photos and breaking him down we packed out in the dark..... it was a late night and set up for another early morning.....
