save your money and buy a good quality rifle.  you'll spend more in the long run on the cheap one. :twocents:

I like Savages... Middle to upper lines.  Although I don't own one.  The AXIS just doesn't cut it for me when the Tikka T3, Rem 770(?), Marlin XL7, offer so much more in the near price point.

I have owned many savages. some good and some terrible.  one of my favorites is the model 10 in 22-250.  one of the most accurate rifles i've ever owned.

FAL, is the stock on your stevens really weak? Tried to use a tricep strap and it tilted the receiver/barrel pretty far. Almost made my crosshair look like an X. I may end up buying an aftermarket stock and changing bolt/barrel for 2 custom guns  :chuckle:

The factory stock is worse than Gumby, so I swapped it out for a Laminated Thumbhole Tundra Deluxe from Stockysstocks. Way Mo Betta now  :chuckle:

If you want a really good barrel look at the CBI barrels from Northland Shooters Supply, Jim Briggs is the man you need to contact......good stuff Maynard!

Esspecialy when the local Bi Mart has matte blued Rem700's in any flavor you like, long or short action. With the scope , if that's what your into. For $369.00.

I am pretty sure you are thinking of a 770 combo there, that would be the cheapest I have heard of in quite a while on a 700 by at least $100.
The reason there are so many Ruger upgrades is because they're necessary.

No, I am not. I purchased a mate blued .308 ADL SPS with the Remington 3-9 scope, bases and rings for 369.00 and th same rifle in stainless chambered in .300 Win mag for 439.00 witch I used as the donor rifle to build my 450 Ultra Magnum. Both rifles have a synthetic stock that looks just like the new SPS but with a blind magazine.

I just called our local Bi-Mart(509) 884-1141. The sale is off on the blued matte Rem700 scope combo and the current price is  $389.00 they have a .270 and a 30-06 on hand but have many other calibers they can order in from their warehouse for the same price. The Rem700 stainless with the scope combo is currently $439.00, they have one in 30-06 and can order one in from the warehouse in whatever long action caliber that is available. A friend picked up a .300 Ultra mag in the combo for 439.00 in stainless at the same time I bought my .300 Winnie donor.

I have a standing order/ reservation for the next stainless Rem700 combo in .300 Ultra Mag their warehouse gets. Already have a HS Stock and bottoms metal waiting for it. $439.00

That is cheap! How are the stocks on those older adl models?

It's not a older ADL model, it's new production. Here is a picture of the stock and take off barrel from the last one I purchased for $439.00, I believe it's a Limbsaver recoil pad?( Correction, the recoil pad is marked "Remington Super Cell", which came out with the new SPS's ) I tried to find the rifle on the Remington home page but they just list the SPS. This has a new SPS style stock but it's a ADL, it's a smoking deal, I just take the scope, bases and rings off and sell it all for $40.00 on the local forums. The scope is just a basic 3x9 marked Remington on the adjustment covers. I shot this 300 Winnie, 30 or so times before sent it off to have a rifle built on the action and the recoil pad was nice. You can't beat the price!

When the local Bi-Mart sold out the last of the matte blue older ADL's. I purchased several for 299.00, a .270 and a 06. I used them for the actions and custom builds.

Give it up.  You're not going to change their minds when they refer to Savage's as cheap.   :dunno:  Just keep smiling and shooting small groups...

Model 14 American Classic .308 Win
Model 11 .308 Win
Model 110 .243 Win
and a Remington Model 7 in .260 Win that I love, but it just can't shoot like the Savages.

The savage axis/edge is a bottom line rifle from a quality firearm company. THEY ARE MADE TO BE CHEAP, PERIOD !!!! They are not a $400, $500, or even a $350 rifle, they are made to fit into the sub $300 range, and they do a great job at it.

Do they have cheap stocks, yes, do they have cheap triggers, yes, do they shoot small groups, YES, are they reliable, yes. $100 dollars gets you a different quality of rifle, no matter what brand. If you want to buy a rifle that is low cost, accurate, and reliable the Axis is it, you could get a POS 770 Remington but they are such garbage Remington is embarrassed by them, or should be. All the Axis is a slightly modified 10/110 to be super efficient to build, cutting corners HAS to happen. Why do you think BiMart sells 700's from $389 all the way to over $1,000, cuz it costs more to build a better anything. Otherwise Coopers would be selling for $400 bucks.

So stop comparing them to much higher quality rifles. Do you complain about people who can only afford a Civic when a Lexus is a better vehicle?

Remember, your Remington 700's are POS compared to a lot of rifles, but no one says they don't do what they are supposed to do.

BTW, you can't put an accutrigger on a non AT rifle, period, unless you want to spend more time and money than it is worth in customizing the receiver to accept it. And I know some dumb **** will do it just to say I am wrong, whatever.
Never, ever let Creed hold you baby, it will ruin it and you will have to get another.

A lot of people can't cough up $1000 for a hunting rifle (or $800, $600, or even $500!)  As far as "cheap" rifles go, it sounds tough to beat the Axis/Edge.  Although, I've heard great things about the Marlin XLs as well.   Merry Christmas to all...   :)

Just shot it today for her first time.
All i can say, is she LOVED it! I like it as well! Solid, light, ACCURATE, and the recoil was fine for her, even after a box of shells, she said it didnt kick! I am really impressed! I know its no 2k gun, but a first time gun, for a 14yr girl, its hers, and shes proud.
The bad, i do need to change the trigger, have to swap out the new scope i got her, and i dont like how the bolt is stiff on the pull up, after a shot.
Other than that, i think she will like it for many years!
Hoping Montana will pick our name this year, and her dreams come true!

Now for graduation plans!!!!(I get to go too) :tung:
Paddle faster!!,,,,I hear banjo's!!!!
