who hunted thanksgiving day?
« on: November 24, 2011, 07:41:18 PM »
well did the skagit county ducks fly low today? Like to know how anyone did today.

ducks were migrating high along the columbia in longview. strings of divers, pintail and just a lot of ducks that have had enough of this wind and rain. Maybe will drop into wilamette valley, or push on down further since these storms are pretty big. Maybe they will come back if we can have a decent break in the rain. Talked to 4 different groups of hunters today with 1 duck between 7 hunters. lots of ducks but they are not coming down. went out to hunt around 10am after everybody came in and thought the afternoon wind might produce but not much of a wind after they were calling for 35+. once again never fired a shot. windy, rainy and nothing yesturday either. A lot of water. Some guys who lived here all their lives say the longview area doesn't get much better until late in the season. i bet you guys got into them the last 2 days if hunting the sound too? let's here it from the sourdough boys? u see a lot of birds today?

The wind was too strong today for many fliers, but saw a lot of swimmers, and one goose that couldnt figure out which set of guys with goose flutes he liked better :chuckle:

I did. Almost got shot by some pheasant hunters on public land....  :yike:  :bash:  :bash:

Shant go back there until December from now on...

Birds were flying though. Fields were flooded. Weather didn't get rainy until after I left. Once the blaze orang crew started blastin' though, the ducks  were no where to be seen. I joined 'em and fled to safer enivrons - home. I think it woulda been nicer in the afternoon when the rain showed up. Beautiful sunrise this morning however. With birds flyin' and blood red skies.... makes it fairly worthwhile to be out at that time of the day.

Got out around around  8AM and set up by 9 went home at 12:30 with 3 mallards and a widgeon.
Saw alot of ducks but was hunting some flooded brush that even the dog couldn't get through so
picked my shots, had fun though.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Yeah... I don't mind it too bad to be rained on by pellets. It happens, especially in crowded areas. But at least they were fired into the the AIR. But I watched BB's skip by my spread across the water horizontally as I was re arranging it. I yelled fairly loudly (for the 2nd time!) using some choice words. Then I just bagged the whole plan. Who want' to stick around in a scene like that? And there just ain't no amount of talking you can do to make people be more safe.
