Pretty good buck.   Looks just like the one I passed on early in the season.  Looks like he grew a little more mass since I saw him, though.

This year I finally got drawn for a hunt I have been waiting way too long for. My dad and I went scouting on Tuesday the 22nd to see what was moving into the area. After seeing about 8 smaller bucks, we found a monster non typical that I wouldn't hesitate to shoot on opening day. We put out a trail cam to see if we could get some pictures of him. Afterwards, we drove around some more and found another real nice buck. I guessed him at about 160+/- typical.

Friday morning my dad, brother, good buddy and I headed out bright and early to see if we could find that non-typical. Chained up, we were running through what seemed a blizzard. It was snowing sideways and cold as heck. Not knowing what to expect, we waited till shooting hours before we went on. The snow stopped and the sun came out, it was looking like it would be a real nice day. As we went, we weren't seeing as many deer as we had on the scouting trip. We did see a nice 4 point with crabby backs chasing does, and continued on.

When we got to where the big non typical was hanging out, we started glassing and found some does and a couple bucks he was with Tuesday. Since they were about 80 yards below, I got out of the truck and headed up the road to check it out. The deer started getting nervous and began walking over a little ridge.

As I rounded the corner and look down a little draw, there he was. He stood out of his bed and was just staring at me from 80 yards. I quickly dropped onto the bipods and took the shot, dropping him back into his bed. It happened so fast I couldn't quit shaking. It had to have been the fastest hunt ever. It wasn't even 8am and I had a monster down.

Walking up to him was awesome. I couldn't believe how big he was. Amazing mass, palmation and extra points made it well worth the 10 year wait.
