No I didn't switch to GEICO

. I saved a bunch in taxidermist fees. I missed an absolute toad of a whitetail buck, big heavy 5x5, not super wide but really tall. I hadn't been on stand more than 15 minutes, 3pm, and I looked to my right and there on my backtrail was all these tines swaying in the sunlight. Walking right out in the open, not a tree within 40 yards of him, just strolling along like he didn't have a care in the world. 140 yards. Out of range. Walked down to about 120-130 yards, I got a good rest, waited for him to stop broadside and pop, boooom (tiny little delay). He just stood there like nothing happened. So as quick as I could I started reloading, got the powder measured out, dumped down the barrell, he's still standing there, bullet in, started, got to take the TMZ loader switched from my starter to the ramrod (gotta get another TMZ loader for the ramrod!!!!), slide the bullett down and seat it good. Buck starts trotting......towards me!!!! Gotta get a musket cap on, crap, ok it's on, close the bolt, look up...............never saw him again. Had I been properly prepared for a follow-up shot, preload ready and spare loader and musket capper, I shoulda, coulda, woulda got a second shot at about 85 yards. Man what a pretty buck. Waited an hour and then went over to verify what I already knew, never touched a hair. Back at it tomorrow. This was on public land. Ended up running into another guy hunting on the way out at dark. Informed me I was using an illegal muzzy for the state. Inlines are illegal. Man if your going to lecture someone on the rules and regs, make sure you know them yourself. Grrrrrrrr I let him know the CVA Elkhorn is perfectly legal here in WA.
