Goose Hunt with Echternkamp 11-19-2011
« on: November 25, 2011, 08:59:31 PM »
Asked my Step-Son if he wanted to try a guided goose hunt with my buddy and I to see if he liked hunting. Called Aaron,
and told him the story that I was going to introduce David to hunting and if I could bring him over as a non-shooter
non-hunter, without a hesitation Aaron was all for the idea. So, everything was set to take David over and see what he
thought of hunting, he was excited to go. Since I grew up in a hunting family this is just a way of life for me.
But, with the Step-Son coming from a non-hunting family I was thinking this would be a good start with some
action for a 16 year old boy. Got him all set up with camo from head to toe, I didn't want him to be freezing
and not enjoy this trip. Saturday ( 11-19-2011 )morning finally arrived and we were meeting with Aaron's Guide Eric.
The other 3 guys finally showed and we were off to the fields. David, had been given all of the do's and don'ts of when
we have birds on top of us. The birds didn't take long to start bombing the decoys and then the famous words
of goose hunting "TAKE-UM" was given. David was in a blind right behind Craig and I. Front row seat for a
goose smack down. 16 shots between all of the shooters and 13 birds on the ground. 3 more calls of take-um
were given and we are done with 24 birds in less than 40 minutes. My Step-Son is now hooked on the idea of getting to
Hunter Ed and joining the fun next season. I cannot thank Aaron Echternkamp, and his guide staff enough for
the great time we had and to get another young man into the sport of hunting.

Here is a pic, me on the Left, Craig in the Center, and my Step-Son is on the right with the big grin
